I made this helle blade knife and sheath for a raffle at my church to raise money for our youth to go on a mission trip. Wanted to share some pics. It's an odell blade. The handle is cocobolo with black phenolic at the blade. That beautiful shiny stuff in the middle is from the inside of a bighorn sheep horn. Wow! The purple stripe in the center is bloodwood. The epoxy turned it that color. The very top and bottom of the stripe look kind of pink! Hope you enjoy it. Mike

Very nice one again. I have had bloodwood to turn fusia colored under epoxy. I did a bow about a year ago with bloodwood in the riser that went fusia. Before the weekend was over that bow took on the name Disco Bow.

Thanks gang for the compliments.
At my church we hold a raffle and everyone that wants to can bring an item they have made. There is a box in front of each item and you can put as many tickets($1 each) in each box as you want. That way if you see something you really want, you can stuff the box in your favor. We don't go outside of our membership for fund raisers. Thought about making a bow but decided a knife will appeal to more people and is alot less expensive for me! I'm anxious to see who gets it.
Frank, I have a friend that house sat a ranch in Idaho one winter. His job was to feed the horses and shovel snow off the roof. The rest of the time he was free to roam the hills and find all sorts of neat things. What a job! Lots of solitude though. Sometimes he wouldn't see anyone else for over a month!
Thanks again for the compliments. Mike
Well, the raffle was last Sunday. Happy to say we raised about $2000 for the youth. Not bad for about 50 people! The knife sack was loaded with tickets. It was one item that was pretty much male oriented.
There was one young boy that couldn't take his eyes off that knife. He HAD to have put more than half of the tickets in the sack. His sister even put 15 tickets in for him.
Turned out that a woman won it. Before she could get back to her table with it, a man offered her cash - I don't know how much- for the knife and a deal was struck. That's the first time anyone has bought a raffle gift from the winner!
I felt really sorry for the young boy. Needless to say, if his father grants me permission, that boy has a gift coming to him in the near future from me.
WOW very nice work :0)
Reminds me of a Bowhunters Banquet I was at one time. One particular self bow was bidding pretty heavy for some reason. One bidder was a father bidding on it for his son. He fell out after the price got rediculous. It kept going and going and finally the winner went up grabbed the bow and took it over and handed it to that boy! Wasn't a dry eye in the house.
Sweeeeet!!
Mike, You're a wonderful man! Thank you for sharing and for your kind efforts for such a worthy event. Beautiful work as usual :) :notworthy:
