I always hated fooling with those factory bino lense covers....and I picked this up from Jeff 'tippit' Springer, and I thought I'd share this in hopes of saving people some grief fighting lense covers.
1st.....take you a piece of fabric, I've used polar fleece, and eye ball the size you will need depending on the size of your binos. Feel free to cut over sized as you can trim to a better fit after your done if need be.
2nd....cut a slit where the red Xs are, again check the size of your binos. You want to come down far enough from the top edge to allow enough fabric to cover the lenses, and don't cut too close to the side edges.

3rd...Connect the fabric to the binos through the slits as shown

Here's the way the cover should look when in use..

When you wan to view, simply raise up the 'flap' and let it fall back out of the way, and flap it back over when you are done.

When storing, a simple rubber band will keep the flap down and your lenses clean.

Awesome, gonna make one tonight!!!!
I think I might sew a piece of microfiber to one side also so I can clean the lenses if needed. I will put it in the underside to minimize dirt and scratching.
One question, do you get lint from the polar fleece or does it stay together pretty well?
The polar fleece actually works well to clean lenses too.
Where do you get scraps of polar fleece??..
Terry..What do you think of those shoulder bino straps??
I don't have any material right now so I hope this makes it to the "how to" section where I can find it down the road someday.
Had a thought on modifying the design. What if you lengthened the polar fleece, folded it over and sewed the sides as to make a pocket? Then it could cover both end of the binocs and eliminate the rubber band? Just a thought. With or without a pocket that's a clever idea :clapper: :clapper:
Ain't the simple ideas nearly always the best?
Great idea...thank you for sharing..
tks, jamie
Heck, I would be using my binocs all the time just to keep my face warm!
Crap! I cant't see anything! someone please help!! I hate missing cool stuff!!!
tippit, you are right, it does.
Nighthawk, I like your idea because it covers the lenses on the other end too!!! I would just make the pocket deep enough to hold the big end of the binos.
Thanks to whoever make the pics appear, I will make one too - Great idea!!!!!
:bigsmyl: You've got good taste Mr. Green....... Terry
The problem with making a pocket is getting your binocks out easily & quickly. My Swarovskis have lens cups on bottom that just flip off with my little fingers. Therefore no need for protection.
The rubber band is used at the end of the day to keep the polar fleece securely on as they go back in my pack.
I originally made the cover so my nose would stop dripping on the lenses. Yes the cover does work for a drippy nose on cold deer stands too :) Doc

My wife has a polar fleece business, so this is just free scrap on my Swarovskis :)
Hey Jeff maybe she has a market for that SCRAP. :bigsmyl: Great idea and oh so simple think I can even do it!
