Has anyone tried to make shafts from IPE?
or
Is bow woods for bows and arrow woods for arrows?
Would make a heavy weight and heavy # spine and strong shaft I would image.
I have a doz made from IPE. They are super heavy and spine about 90# Joseph made them. Hard to straighten but once strait will stay that way.

I got the Ipe from Bill Bonczar at Alhegany Mountain Arrow Woods. When he has it it is good stuff. You have to heat it a lot to straighten it and it is very oily. Last ones I made it took a week for Daly's profin to dry enough that it wasn't tacky and that was in a 85-90 degree warm drying box. Beautiful once it is finished and tuff stuff to. I shot a Bison bull in November at Doug Campbells with a Ipe arrow. He did a running flip and rollover on it and it came through that in 1 piece! Joseph
Yep, Bill is the best source for Ipe. If your looking for heavy spine and heavy weight thats the stuff. dino
I turned a few last summer for kicks. They came in at 100#s and 1100 gr. A bit more then I can handle. Was thinking of turning some at 9/32 for use on hogs.

So for shafts that spine out around 80 to 85 #, what diameter are you guys thinking?
11/32 inches. Usually that is the low end for Ipe spine. It is hard to get purple heart under a hundred pound spine. Either way you may have to go longer than normal and use a heavy point. Joseph
