What does a person need to get started making there own arrows?
Carbon, wood, or aluminum?
an arrow fletcher like a bitzenberger, feathers, glue, shafts, points, inserts, if you want to cut your own feathers youll need a chopper or a burner, we talkin woodies or others?
I would add a spine tester and a grain scale if you are making your own shafts or using dowels. I would even recommend them if you aren't.
For basic wood arrows: Shafts, points, feathers, a fletching jig, glue (or flethcing tape), ferr-l-tite or hot melt glue for gluing on points, a heat source such as an alcohol burner, a dip tube and sealer, a taper tool, a saw to cut shafts to length (doesn't have to be an expensive cut off saw) and nocks. Extras to consider but not necessary would be a cresting tool and paints, a shorter dip tube for crown dipping, possibly some stain for shafts, a feather burner or chopper. A spine tester and grain scale are also nice. The 3 Rivers archery arrow making video is also helpful and covers the needed equipment well. Make sure that your sealer, glue and paints are compatible.
what northwoods said :readit:
Northwoods pretty much covered all the basics plus a little. It can be expensive getting together all the stuff you'll need to get started but making wood arrows is something I really enjoy and like to do especially on those days my shooting stinks. I have a lot of arrows....
Just talk to Larry Murray at "Lost Nation" and He will set ya Up without breaking the Bank! Just my 2 cents of course.
Okay, I just have to do this:
A turkey, a tree, rocks, and a knife. :)
Sorry I couldn't resist.
How do i kill the turkey with no arrows? :bigsmyl:
BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM
LOL I couldn,t resit
I'd start out basic with a fletching jig and parts to assemble then go from there.Wood arrows take alot more effort and more tools than their counterparts do.If ya decide to get a burner don,t do it in the house your wife will shoot ya LOL
It can't smell any worse than a rancid deer head boiling on the stove, she didn't like that. :knothead:
