:help: I'm looking for some public land hog hunting in SC. Up here in Spartanburg county we are hogless as far as I can tell. Any of you low country boys know where I can stick some on public land. Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated. :archer:
You might try the Savannah Wildlife Refuge near Hardeeville(just NW of Savannah). It is federal and I don't know if it is open all the time or if it only has limited hunts. Pat
Hickory Top is has plenty. It is in Clarendon county. SCDNR will provide you a map if call and request it. I live about ten minutes from there. It is right off of 95 just south of Summerton.
I hunt hogs quite a bit on the
Samworth wma outside of Georgetown and also the Santee Delta they both have scheduled hunts with a good harvest rate...all the info is in the dnr reg book...
Wambaw, and Waterhorn both have good populations as well. I sent you a PM.
Thanks guys for all the information.
Try the Sumter National Forest near Long Creek, or Mountian Rest. Taking Highway 11 south will get you there pretty quickly from Spartanburg. And yes there are pigs there, but be ready for some rough walking.

Brian,I saw you post on Longcreek and hogs I worked on the chatooga and lived in long creek for around five or so years, now I am down in charleston,, Is there a substantial hog population in that area I never saw any sign when I was there but that was pre 1994,
How about the Francis Marion National Forest? I'd be surprised if hog hunting wouldn't be good in that part of the low country.
The best hog hunting is on private land. The best public hunting is around Georgetown IMO The majority of public hunting is concurrent with deer season except for a few hunts in Feb and March. Samworth and Santee Delta have good hog hunting during periods of high water but at normal water levels the hogs disperse out in the marsh and ricefields. There are always some, but during high water its a pretty easy hunt. Also those WMA's are only accessible by boat. If you go, realize that the tide rises and falls. I had to help a couple of nimrods get thier boat off of dry land last season when low tide left them high and dry.
Santee Coastal reserve has two week long archery hunts in the fall. Ive never hunted there without shot opportunities at a hog. The bugs are worse than horrible if its warm and there are more BIG alligators than any other place Ive hunted in the SE.
Savannah NWR gets hammered and you really need a boat to hunt it.
Never hunted Francis Marion but I know guys that do and they kill pigs occasionally.
Allan, I would check out the Woodbury Wildlife Management area...it is a new public area...in Marion County...if is full of hogs....hope this helps...good luck...
hope that helps...
tks, jamie
Allan,
Do a search of SC Fish and Game Mag. They did an article last year on hunting hogs on public land after deer season. A few of the places have hog season that stretch from the end of deer to the beginning of turkey. I guess I need to find that article for myself to.

If the water is high at Woodburry don't waste your time. But if the water lvl is normal to low it has plenty.
