The dates are May 17-21.
Turkeys in the morning and fishing/stumping in the afternoons.
I need final yeahs or nays folks so I can book rooms and figure out who rooms with who and where I'm going to put who in the woods.
Let me know if you can call and if you have a blind so I can pair folks off accordingly.
Daniel and Sylvie will be in late on the 16th and have to leave early on the 22nd. If you can't make these dates and would still like to come up that can be arranged too. All of May is turkey season.
Tippet is a solid yes also and 4runr says he's in. AlexB has to check his schedule due to some snow issues earlier this year. Theres room for 4 more on the properties I have available.
We will visit the Orvis headquarters one afternoon. Bring your waders and rods.
If this goes well I hope to make a yearly event.
French Manny and Huntrdfk (David) are on the list and I need answers from them also.
Jeremy has a wedding so can't make it this year.
David...while Daniel is there, you might get him to do some roofing for you :smileystooges:
Sounds like you guys will have a blast!!
David, i may have to make a little trip;)
Just let me know when Jake
Dennis, no ladders or roofs for Daniel!
Dave I can call, but I don't have a blind. I have a rod but no waders. Usually folks don't want me around when fishing. I am a fish anti-magnet. I'll have to tell you a couple stories about S.C.!! :banghead: :banghead:
P.S. I can do roofs??
That's alright Kenny, I'm not a fly snob. I make my own Panther Martin style spinners that hammer them real well.
David I will know for sure this weekend, but even if I can't make it for the entire time I will be there for a minimum of one or two days. I do have and will bring a Brickhouse blind.
Thanks,
David
Anyone who would like to join is welcome to ask. Won't be a Texas Sweat, but I think we'll have some fun.
Room for two more it looks like. So anyone want to come play with some fellow Trad Gangers?
David, Maybe I should just bring my fly rod. No blind, can't call, only hear out of one ear so can't locate where gobble coming from :scared:
I know of a blind I can borrow for you and will partner you with Kenny who can hear and call.
I wear a ten Doc.
Dang, Dave. We won't see any Turkeys. I'll be talkin his ear off about knives!!! :bigsmyl: :thumbsup:
Kenny, You need to bring the Sunday paper for the toes. I wear a 14 but you won't need any snow shoes :)
Carcajou looks to be in now. So we have one spot left. Who wants in?
So folks know. This hunt is free. You buy your tags and pay for your room. No one pays me a dime. This is just a turkey hunt for folks that would like to meet other TGers. All of May is turkey season. So other hunts can be done if there is interest.
Scott has another obligation for that week so we lost one blind and gained an opening.
David I've got the use of a blind for the time I'm there.
Sounds like fun. Wish I could swing it. But... :knothead:
You're always welcome Ron.
:bigsmyl: :wavey:
Asewome job David, we are really looking forward to meeting all of you. Only a few weeks to go and we are on Air Canada heading your way.
Daniel and Sylvie
Sorry I missed your call today, Daniel - even if you were trying to call David - LOL. Good luck to you, Sylvie , and all the others on the Turkey hunt.
LOL -
I got another call from Daniel (Bull Grizzly) last night and though he can't (won't ;) ) tell me much in the way of specifics, the process on my knife from GAboy (that was his Dad's) is well under way. Right now the knife is off getting something done that Daniel always sends out to be done, after he did some of his magic to it. Now he is working on it's new handle. He's says it will take some time but it will be special - (I never had a doubt in my military mind, as we used to say in the Corps - LOL). He really has me hyped up though - likes to, "twist the knife," so to speak.
David,
Got some bad news. My wife has been in S. Carolina for the passed 6 weeks with her horse. Going over the calendar with her, I was informed that the weekend of the get together is also the weekend of my daughter's graduation from vet school. I so sorry to miss meeting everyone...Doc
CAn you come for the days during the week at all?
WOW, sounds like some BIG fun!!! Wish I could come...Maybe next year, if I start planning for it now... Have fun fellas
David,
Just got a clearance from the boss to come up early on Thursday the 17th, stay the night, & go back early Friday morning. My son is flying in Friday afternoon from Colorado so that seems to be my only window. I'd sure like to meet everyone...more important than the hunting/fishing. Doc
That is what interests me the most too Doc. A chance to meet you all. Manny is coming down Sunday April 22 to do some scouting and stumping, you're more than welcome to come play in the woods with us.
I'd like a day of woods play & night of BS :) Will Daniel & Sylvie be there on Thursday?
Yes, they fly into Montreal the 16th, drive down here and hunt from the 17th through 21st and drive back to Montreal early the 22nd.
Just thought I'd bring this back ttt. Talked to The Monster last night and we're still on. He's feelin his oats and wants out of the hospital. If he has any more episodes like he did when he was comin out of the anesthesia, I'm sure the hospital will be glad to be rid of him!! :bigsmyl:
Home at last and looking real forward to some turkey hunting. Don't know if I'll be able to draw the bow yet, but I can call for someone if nothing else.
Outstanding, buddy!!! :campfire: :clapper:
Welcome home Bud!
Nice to see you back David, don't push it too hard yet......
David
Ahhh, Nothing like your own home & bed. Now don't go over doing it...Doc's orders :)
Licenses can be had here ahead of time.

This is going to be fun. Look forward to your and Tippit's arrival.
Also if anyone wants to join in, we have lots of room due to a series of unfortunate circumstances there were a bunch of dropouts.
I'm runnin a little late but I'm finally about to leave. On the road!!

Ended the day with some venison chops on the grill and good conversation. You couldn't find a better two guys to spend a day with. And yes they both brought some awesome samples of their knife crafts and Jeff has some great surprises ahead for St. Judes so no pictures to tease you with until he's ready. But you can watch our supper cook. LOL

Kenny starts chasing turkeys tommorrow so more pics then.
Folks, this is what fun is. Spendin time with two of the nicest fellas you'll ever meet, and eatin good food. Dave and I went out this evening and did a little scoutin for my morning hunt. Looks like some good turkey country. I am pumped for the early morning.
Kenny
We did see a bucket load of deer today also.
Had a great day with Dave & Kenny...the time just seemed to melt away...stories, laughter, good food. Made two new friends but it was more like a reunion than a first meeting...TG seems to do that! I wish I could have stayed the night and have Kenny call in a nice bird in the morning but I had to get back for my daughter's graduation from vet school this weekend.
Go get 'em Kenny & thanks for the hospitality Dave...Doc
FOOD! Dang I could have met all three of you and got good EATS! But no I gotta be stuck in WISCONSIN. Dave next year Shell and I will have to take ya up on that there invite!<><
Oh yeah Doc sent ya a email<><

Got get 'em Kenny, have a good hunt today....
David
Hopefully Kenny is into the birds by now. Just before dark we did a little hooting and got an answer gobble. So he's in the right ballpark at least.
Ohh, Vance is gonna' like this one! Take a look at those chops! MMmm MMmm! :cool:
You're right Joe, venison chops to go with HIS cookies. Good luck with the turkeys guys; I'll be watching for the pictures.
I'll be tuning in here every chance I get during the day. Can't wait to see how the mornings hunt went. Good luck.
Chuck I hope next year you can come up and play too as I do of a lot of other folks here. Three guys is fun but the more the merrier.
Just AIN'T FAIR. :banghead: :banghead:
All that FOOD AND gettin to wring out a fellas NEW bows all on the same day.
An YOU Monster having them two, all ta yer self fer a WHOLE DAY Just ain't right.
Then ya just have to post it, Now that's just plain COLD
If I was cold I would have posted pics of the 20 or so knives Jeff brought and let us play with. Now that would have been cold Vance. :biglaugh:
Well, this morning I walked down through here;
(http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f143/4runr/Tradgangevents003-3.jpg)
then I sat inside here;
(http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f143/4runr/Tradgangevents004-3.jpg)
We saw a young doe there last night when I was showing Kenny someplaces he could set up.
And Kenny And :banghead: :banghead:
While I sat there I listened for that sound that makes every turkey hunter's heart start pumpin like a jackhammer, I kept lookin at this;
(http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f143/4runr/Tradgangevents005-4.jpg)
and this;

Why did Lam"o" ever start this :scared: :scared:
He is actually right here now Vance. He posted all that from the hotel. We are going to go visit a few more spots(you do get two tags here afterall) and I'm sure he'll post more tonight.
Looking forward to more........
David
OK Kenny,
Now that you finished your 2nd turkey club, we need the story...Doc
Well, Doc, there's not much to tell. We went to the water park;
(http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f143/4runr/Tradgangevents003-4.jpg)
and on the way we saw this;
(http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f143/4runr/Tradgangevents001-3.jpg)
pictures do not do this magnificent specimen justice. She was 5-6 feet in diameter, fell accross the road and struck the house accross the street, doing alot of damage. They cut her in slabs you could have made a dinner table out of. The storm damage up here is tremendous. Trees and power lines were down all over the higher elevations. Incredible!!
:readit:
Looks like a nicer day up there than down around Boston...rained all day! I should have stayed to keep you company or at least shot that Shrew some more :) Doc
Kenny did some of that for you today Doc. But I'll let him tell you all about it. He had a couple of firsts today that would have made you proud. Slow story teller though. lol
Well, Ron, this is all I caught today;
(http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f143/4runr/Tradgangevents006-4.jpg)
My first ever Brook Trout. A fun little fish to catch. After hunting this morning and only hearin 1 gobble way across the road, we did some scoutin for tomorrow, and sight seein, and a little fishin.
We also spent some more time at Dave's shootin. I was shootin, he was coaching. If I don't get a turkey tomorrow, this trip will still be a success in my book. Met another great friend, Tippet. Got to see some purty country. Best of all was spending more time with Dave and his family, and having him point out some glitches in my bow shooting. It's nice having a coach one on one who has the experience Dave has and is willing to help me out. Thanks Brother!
PS... My arm wasn't long enough to make the brookie look as big as HE REALLY WAS!!! :bigsmyl: :bigsmyl:
Kenny was getting consistent 6"-3" groups at 15 yards when we were done this afternoon. It's the little things that make the big differences sometimes. No more stonewall kills from here on out.
OK now he can use my arrows :cool:
Thanks Doc..lol... It's amazing what 1 little change can do. Dave gave me a hand full of aluminums that flew nicely for me once I used his pointers. Out of my selfbow too!!
Looks like the feathers part of this adventure is over. Went to the woods this morning and as soon as I stept out of the truck I heard em. Gobble, gobble, gobble!! :bigsmyl:
I got my gear and headed off across the road from yesterday's set up. Every so often he would sound off, and I was able to get a bearing! Oh boy here we go.
As I was makin my way across a hay field and into a little notch in the woods which lead to a small plowed field, I heard him again. Gobble, gobble, gobble....BANG!!!
:banghead: :banghead:
The gobble & then a bang must have really gotten the old ticker going :)
Yeah, but not really in a good way. If it had been my bang, it would have been a different story! :D
It was still probably 150-200 yards away when it happened, but it still makes you jump!!
Yeah, I didn't mean it in good way. It would have :scared: it out of me!
Kenny, Congrats on the Brook... They are good eatin. Sounds like you had a good time :wavey:
Kenny had lots of fresh sign, gobbles and such today, but he needs to do the story telling. A few more fish today too.
After getting excited and bummed in short order, I decided to go to the other property Dave showed me yesterday.
It's kids summer camps surrounded by alot of beautiful forest. There are tons of trees down all over the place up there so that probably had some effect on how the birds were acting. I got no response to any calling (maybe Vermont turkeys talk different). I saw alot of sign where they had been, but no clue where they were.
I got a few pics of the place which I'll share later.
After going back to the hotel to shower, I picked Dave up and we headed to the river. We fished and chatted for about 4 hours. I caught 1 little native brook trout and Dave caught 1 brown after changing bait. We got no pics cause we were more concerned with keeping them alive than taking pics, sorry.
All in all I count this trip a success. Making new friends and having a good time shooting bows and learning how to shoot better, meant alot to me. Dave not being able to scout the birds due to his ordeal with the appendix was something knew coming into this and I have no dissapointment about it. I will be back next year, and I hope others will as well.
Here are a few more pics;
Dave's deer hunting throne;
(http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f143/4runr/Tradgangevents005-5.jpg)
A morel mushroom, the only one I saw all year, and it was too far gone to eat;
(http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f143/4runr/Tradgangevents016.jpg)
and last but not least, the real reason for the trip (Doc, you forgot your's)
(http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f143/4runr/Tradgangevents022-1.jpg)
Sounds like a great time was had by all! Thanks for taking those that couldn't be there in person!
Tomorrow French Manny is going to be here so we may still have something to add. The appendix and a few other things really threw everything into a mess, but we made the best of it and it wasn't hard to have fun with Kenny here. Jeff's time with us was a treasure in and of itself too. Meeting TGers is a reward all of it's own.
more Good pic's
Kenny,
It sure was great to meet you and Dave. Even though it was just one day, I feel like I've added two more special friends! I'll be back up when you come back. Heck by then I maybe a boarder at Dave's house :) This would be a great TG Annual Spring Meeting...(TGASM...hint hint!)
Dave,
I like your tree stand...I mean rock stand. Very Traditional & New Englandy. Does it come supplied with that last picture Kenny posted :bigsmyl: Doc
It's set-up to be a great place to watch the sunset, raptors hunt, and othe various critters run around. Never actually shot anything from it though and that has never bothered me a bit.
Looks like we're on for the fall Jeff if you would like to come back up.
Two Adirondack chairs and a case of Otter Creek between us...you bet :biglaugh: Doc
Just so happens that there are three of them there, so we're good. You guys will just have to carry the other two over a little bit. :)
Now I'm up for this hunt :thumbsup: :thumbsup:
Can you make it here in October Vance?
Now that would be cool. Don't know how much huntin would be done, but I'm sure we would have a good time :bigsmyl:
Glad to see you made it home ok.
Thanks again Dave, I had agreat time.
I saw 1 hen in Vermont just before crossing into NY. I saw a total of 5 in NY, the entire distance of about 400 miles. I saw none in PA. As soon as I crossed into OH the first field on the right held 3, then 1/2 hour later I saw 4 more. Next year I'm trapping some and bring em along!! :bigsmyl:
