I emailed Trueflight yesterday to find out how to send in my stockpile of turkey feathers and got a reply that they are no longer performing their grinding/prep service.
Guess I will have to setup a jig and drum sander and do it myself.
Just thought I would let the board know. Hope it wasn't posted before. :readit:
Glenn,
Contact David Mitchell at feathers@greenhills.net
he will do the grinding for you. My understanding is that he does all you send him and keeps the rights or lefts (whatever you don't want)and sends you back the other half finished no charges. I have been saving up a bundle to send him. I have not had him do any yet but a number of people have told me is great to deal with and does a fantastic job. I'm sure there's a bunch of the guys here that use his services.
It's not hard to do them yourself...heck I can even do it! I made the jig clamp and use a electric hand drill with sanding drum. It works real good. But I guess if you can get it done for free, why not!
Hunt it thanks for the information.
I found a cheap drill press today and will get a drum sander for it.
I found several links from the past on the subject and they have been very helpful.
My father and I have both limited out here in Florida this year with mature Gobblers so I have 4 sets up primaries plus all the other feathers for Fly Tying ETC...
thanks
Raven does a fine job too and its cheap, seems like it was about 15 cents each last time. They do a real fine job and only charge you for the ones that come out usable.
gateway did mine a few months back....
