Title: Stress cracks
Post by: Benoli on April 02, 2007, 08:50:00 AM
How big of problem are stress cracks? Are bows OK to shoot with minor cracks? At what point should someone just put the bow down? Cany they be repaired? Thanks in advance.

Stress looks a lot worse than it actually is.........you can try to get some quality CA glue to seep in there. I have used Loctite 420 on old Bear bows. Typically they are just in the glass and not the wood. When the lines actually start to join together, say 4 lines in one limb face, that's when I quit shooting the bow. Usually stress will show in the lower limb first 'cause it is working a little harder.

"Pat B", The ones I'm refering to are in the glass and they are fairly minor. Thank you "Bjorn".

I think Bjorn has it. I spoke with a very well known bowyer about a couple small (1/8th") cracks in the glass of one of his bows and he told me to smooth over some CA and never think about it again.
