Title: Hawgin' off some bark!
Post by: Mulberry River on March 31, 2007, 11:30:00 PM
Man! This 5" draw knife will do the trick!  I shucked this white oak stave during halftime of the  UCLA vs. Florida game.

It's a lot easier than doing it this way

This is the other 1/2 of the well-cured stave I bought from Mike Yancey when I went over to the Tackle Box at Fort Smith and bought some deer huntin stuff (seed for a plot and a Filson wool vest 1/2 price)

and some turkey huntin stuff (new diaphragms and a camo cap)

and some killer Smallmouth baits for this summer.

That's Carson, my middle-sized grandson on Lake Dardanelle with a "smallmouth" bream, but he managed to catch this Largemouth

before those Women Bassmasters could during the tournament here this weekend.  This is the 2nd 1/2 of this stave, the first 1/2 having succumbed to my stupidity. It was looking pretty good til I tried to string it too short at first.

However, I shall press forth, undaunted, awash in hopefulness and (unmerited?) confidence.  I know you're thinking I'll never succeed with this propeller stave, but the first one

also had some twist, so I think I may be able to work with it as it nears completion.  Wish me luck!  (Camera batteries came out & it reset it's date.)

Keep at er'Danny. Did the first one break or just get string follow? If it didn't break there are ways to fix the follow. Make sure to take your time. I know when I get hasty I end up screwing up and either ruining something or making it hard to fix. Cheers, Matt

Cool drawknife, Danny.  What kind is it? Larry

It's a 5" American-made one from traditionalwoodworker.com; only cost $29.95.  I also got a Two-Cherries Cabinet Scraper from them, but I haven't gotten to try it just yet.
Later,
Dan
