I met one of mine at TX Sweat...and below is my 'other' goal for 2007.
I'd like for every animal taken to be with a different bow. I have had a few bows for a while that haven't taken game yet, and they deserve to. So, I'm going to try and do them the honor. In no particular order.....
Javaman DuoFlex
Sunbear Recurve
Howard Hill Cheetah
The MOAB I haven't bloodied yet.
The selfbow I built about 6 years ago.
And the Classic Bowhunting bow I just received.
Oh yeah, I have one goal that's the same year after year....to have more fun than last year :D
Just curious as to hear what other's goals are this year.
I am going to finally kill a bull elk on a diy elk hunt in CO, I hope. I have been close, but I think this is my year.
I am going to help two members here take there first ever turkeys and hunt with 8 members I have never hunted with before. I am going to get 100 new bowhunters certified. I also plan on helping the St. Judes Auction break the $50,000 mark this year.
Take my first turkey with a bow, take my first deer with a bow, take my first hog with a bow........well just take my first large game animal with a bow! LOL
Get my form 100% under control and limit myself to shooting as few bows as possible. And make only a minimum number of changes to my set ups!
I hope to take my first exotic with a bow and take a wall hanger buck with a bow. I also want to attend TX Sweat '08. And help my grandson take his first animal with a bow.
i'd like to take a feral hog with my bow.i'd also like to continue making great friendships with the members here.
Finish my first selfbow and start and finish several more :D :D :D
My goal is just to go Hunting with my friends.
And to continue to make more friends here at Trad Gang....
And as always to make and sell more stuff than the year befor....
I have a 1967 47# Bear Grizzly that "officialy" turns 40 this year :bigsmyl:
Improve my longbow shooting.
Make a laminated bow (?)
Do more ground hunting early season
Put more venison in the freezer. 1 deer almost gone already :(
Take a big blackie boar with a longbow if I get drawn again this year.
And also ..... what Bjorn said ;)
my first large game animal with a bow, and finaly have a hunting partner/group to hunt with.
#1 is to help my son get his first deer. Other than that.......
Catch up on string orders
More bowfishing
More hog hunting
More deer hunting
At least see an elk on an OR hunt this fall
Figure out how to get to Oz for a water buffalo before I get too old to do it
Plan a gator/hog hunt for next spring
Build some arrows
Kill something with my selfbow
Place at the Howard Hill with my longbow (had a huge run of luck last year with my selfbow)
Spend more time with family and friends at tournaments (instead of setting up as a vendor)
Spend more time with my son and friends hunting
That's a start anyhow..........
Chad
Do better then last year as a Christian. And get my first trad deer. Make a real knife that is just half as good as Tippits, Highpockets, Jeremy and Mr.C. and of course Mr.Lippert. I know thats a TALL order but thats what it is. And one more thing weasel another one of Lewis' longbows from him :biglaugh: :biglaugh: <><
I'm hoping to be able to get out into the woods this year with my buddy. I have not hunted since 2004 as a result of a nasty nerve disease. I will be satisfied with just one day, Lord willing. If not, I'll be happy with just sitting in camp near the stove while listening to all the stories being told. Most are b.s. but some actually have a bit of truth in them! Either way, they're good for some laughs. Good luck to everyone.
Recruit trad hunters, spend time hunting with family and get a New York slam (deer, turkey, coyote)with home made cedar arrows. And get my lion in 01/08!!!Hope to make a good selfbow or 2.
Good Question Terry...My Answer?..."Read My Signature"... ;) ...
... mike ...
I am going to take a turkey with my bow, hopefully without a blind.
I am also going to take game with four longbows hopefully.2 does check mate long bow and bowriver long bow,1 buck robertson mystical,2 bruins bow river take down longbow,1 bull moose cant decide br takedown, robertson or maybe the john schulz longbow.Lots of big steelhead, bass and especially a few big muskie. And i almost forgot 2 turkeys bow river longbow and checkmate.
My goal for this year to to just get out there in the woods and make an effort, hopefully with at least one of my sons in tow. They are older now and have got away from hunting, due to work, I have'nt been able to go for the past 4 years. This year I will be in the woods !!
I'd like to be able to get out with the folks from Georgia on this board too.
But mainly, just to get out there this year, I would'nt even care if I did'nt kill any thing.
Already made several of my goals this year, with my first hunt, first trad kill, first trip to the US.
Next up is trip 2 to Virginia to meet up with Brothers Bob, Ron & Jeff & hopefully get into a Whitetail.
My other goals include keeping all of the 3D trophies I won last year! :goldtooth:
Getting hold of a Horne Combo Longbow,
Build a selfbow,
Spend more time travelling & seeing the world.
I think I'll look into getting a Government Grant to study Behavioral Patterns of "TradGang" members. 1 new member a month
Actually I just want to enjoy the Skin I'm in, Savor each and every moment I am blessed with. Improve where I can and be content where I can't improve. Enjoy Friends to the fullest and be the best friend I can be.
Work on this spare tire I been carrying for awhile...Help my son with his bowhunting try like heck to get him a real nice recurve, and find me squrriel dog..hehe... :wavey: and work on my bow collection :wavey: ...make a phesant hunt this year!!!! with my longbow!!
I have a spare tire issue that appeared after elk season; I too will have to deal with that..
I want to take the poormans slam; a bear; a deer an elk and an antelope. I would like to fill a second bear tag too.
Its do-able. I would also like to take them all within ten miles of my cabin- which is also except for the second bear - very possible.
practice- want to practice more :)
Finish the Bows I have Started, and Make some New Ones along with Upping My Bow I.Q. in the Process! :goldtooth:
Try My Best to see Life as my 19 year Old Daughter Sees it. I was 19 Once, but The World Was Much Different Then. At Least for Me it was!
Becoming a Proud GrandPa in October from my 17 Year Old "Brainiac, That is Going to Graduate Mid-Term, and go to Purdue(I Think)!! And try to set the Best Example I can, for my Whole Families Sake.
Try To Be A Friend to the MANY Fine People that I call "MY TRADGANG FAMILY!!"
My Motto "ONLY ON TRADGANG!!"
Well O.K. Terry , you ask! Get a Divorce!
I would really love to work on my shooting more since the unresolved pain in my side held me back many times, help as many fine TG family as I can, honor my commitments without any setbacks, spending more quality time with our friends and family....
Especially to get my first trad deer this fall and get to Oahu to be with my soul sister Cara and her hubby (Islandlongbow).
But this last part would be a goal for my lifetime.
Be thankful for everytime I'm able to get out.
I'm going to try and continue keeping my promises, I am going to be a better Christian-and do my best to minister through archery, I am wanting terribly to get a Pronghorn and a Bear. But most of all, a Lion!
VERY good topic, it really got me to thinkin'.
Jeff
Last year I got 2 slick top whitetails with my long bow, and one of the arrows are still intact going to try to take another animal with an arrow that has already done its job once!
>>>Tim-------->
My first is too make sure my family is happy and than take a bird out of my new Matrix. After that I plan on killin' as many critters as I can with my new recurves. I should add that I want too really have my wife with me when i take a bird from my blind. She has agreed to hunt from the blind with me, this will be a first in 25 years. Shawn
Thank you for your service, Mr. Stone. I also hope you feel well enough to get out in the woods with your bud for a while. Good for the soul.
Give more thanks for what I have...
I need to get my honey back healthy. Heading to hospital in a few to visit with our new month old daughter.
Hunting wise, need to secure good hunting ground. After last year's ordeal, need to find a spot in a hunting club.
I have a 65 Kodiak I would like to take a deer with. Would be cool if a wall hanger falls to it but also just as happy if not.
JL
I'm hoping to get a spring turkey with one of my bows be it a recurve or longbow. I will have my daughter and son with me more this season, this will make it even more fun. I also want to hunt or shoot with some more Trad Gang members this year.
I want to kill a turkey with my bow, and if he's still alive, the whopper buck I saw 3 times last year.
I would love to get out and hunt this year.
Have fun, stay safe and put a little something in the freezer.
My goal is to take a doe (only permit I have left) in northern NY the end of September.
To be afield with my home made archery equipment and harvest my second deer, and my first turkey.
my goal... get a deer, any deer, big deer, little deer, male deer, female deer, anything. heck, a squirrel would be cool. To sum it up, my goal is my first trad kill that isnt cardboard. :knothead: :archer:
HUNTING Goals:
1. Hunt a new place I found as much as possible.
2. Try Turkey hunting for the first time.
3. Try to organize a tradgang hunt with a bunch of PA trad gangers. :banghead:
I think that's all.
First thing I want is to draw my moose, sheep or goat tag. Second, I would like to fill said tag solo still-hunting. Third, I am heading into the Bob for my elk last week of Septmber, made a deal with myelf to get the wall hanger out of the way so I can hunt cows without regret. Fourth, find that monster mule deer that swagerred across the ridge above hunting camp last season.
This year I`m going to show (begin showing) my young sons my deepwoods hunting spots that took me so many years to discover. Some I haven`t seen for ten years or more. (Michigan has it if you are willing to work)
Also, a yote. Fair and square. Called in. I will take the unlucky ones that are cruising the deer runs too, but I`m gonna get mean. Been shooting thirty yards (where they always hang up and get nervous), and even a straight on shot is not out of the question.
Every year gets more spiritual and more enjoyable.
Traditional archery has taught me so much. As far as I`m concerned, its an insult to just call this bowhunting thing a "SPORT". This year I`m gonna make it known that this is so much more than a sport.
I just bought an old bear grizzly. I would like to shoot something with it even if it is small game. I am also going to Colorado for elk and mule deer (assuming I draw a deer tag). It is either going to be a fairly cheap elk hunt or an expensive camping trip. Either way, my goal is to have a good time and hopefully tag a western critter.
Getting out and hunting more this year.
Taking my Grandson on several hunts.
staying safe through it all
To enjoy myself to the fullest that I can.
I've had an absolute ball hunting with new & old tradgang friends these past 2 years. So my goal is to continue on more tradgang hunts...don't care what or where it is we're hunting just to enjoy the camaraderie and spirit of the bow...Doc
Get a deer with one of my new longbows. This is my 3rd season and I got one each of the last 2 years with 2 differant recurves. I would really like to hunt some rabbits, and just hunt more. A shootable buck would be nice for a change.
my first traditional kill with my assenheimer,i chickened out last year and took my compound this year there ain't no chickening out .
To small game hunt with my bow just to have more fun!!! And always with broadheads in case a deer shows up....Charlie
Draw all the tags I put in for, then fill them.
My goal for this year is pretty simple compared to some. i just want to fill my fall bear tag in Canada in the company of some fellow Trad Gang members and meet some more of our members at some of the 3D's.
This fall my 3 brothers and I have an elk hunt planned FINALLY. This will be literally the 1st hunt we will all be together on at one time. Not so much as deer or small game all together.
Good question, Terry. Mine is pretty simple. Just spend as much time in the woods as possible.A nice mature white-tail would be the icing on the cake.
Good Huntin,
Ed
well me i want to meet all the awesome people i have had contact with if posible but mostley to meet me brother bob face to face for the first time. man that is going to be awesome as he is one hell of a nice guy and one could not ask for a better friend s..t it is going to be one hell of an emotional time let me tell you. and the other thing to get me a whitetail deer to eat. and some tree rats i here they are yummmmmmm.
Number one is to help my 10 year old son Hunter take his first turkey, then I'd like to take a spring and fall turkey this year with a recurve.
Shoot one deer from the ground this year.
Hunt out of state this year.
David
I would love to break my Sambar drought and put one on the ground here on Guam.
I plan to have more fun than I had last year.
Hunt with my brother more with the bows.
I really want to meet Curtis Keller and Charlie Lamb and hunt with them.
enjoy life as it is given to me and spread more joy.
Danny
I want to take a turkey with my bow, while my five year old daughter, Brier is with me. We hunted last year together pretty hard, but didn't connect with a turkey. Had one out the back at 15 yards, but he was with a hen and she lead him away. Was really cool to see him and watch him and I know the kill isn't everything, but would be my first turkey with a bow and to have my daughter share that with me, would be the best!
Mine are pretty simple. Hunt as often as possible throughout the year and be able to share those hunts with good friends. Shoot a bow nearly every day. Stay healthy, and get in decent shape for the fall seasons. If I can accomplish those goals I will have a very successful season. Might even get lucky and kill an animal or two.
To wear out a pair of boots stumping/hunting and just having fun with my daughter.
Vermonster, you're a monster! But a good monster. :knothead:
Killdeer
Mine are to build my first bow
Take my first Ontario big game animal and just spend more time in the woods and on the water.also my first carp shoot and try to write more.
1) To kill a turkey from my new groundblind!
2) To see my good buddy Jake, take his first bowkilled animal.
3) To arrow a nice buck with my Mississippi Lake Longbow, then kill a freezer doe or 2...
4) To kill a bear this Sept.
5) To spend as much time as possible in the bush with my longbow(s)...if that chekmate Thunderbird EVER makes it to me ;) !!! LOL
6) To share some hunts with my kids and spouse out of the new blind.
7) Last but not least, to get my book about Flyfishing and Traditional- bowhunting Ontario published!
BD :bigsmyl:
I've been buisy building bows this winter...so...I'd like to...
1. Get a quick/clean kill on a doe with my Osage Selfbow that I carved from the quarter split Walt Francis gave me.
2. Get on a Turkey hunt or maybe a Bear with the Sheepeater Spirit bow that my friends Brent and Mark at Classic Bowhunting Co. built for me and I finished.
3. Take an Elk or Deer with the new Hybrid longbow I designed and built and am just now finish sanding and spraying. She's a peach.
4. Hunt with others more, or atleast camp with-em.
In no particular order, my goals this year are to be the best husband, father and friend I can be, get out and meet more of the great people on this site, spend as much time as possible huntimg and shooting...Remember to remain grateful for all of the wonderful blessings that God has put into my life...
My goals for hunting this year is to make my first Traditional harvest a Roosevelt elk at 12 yards, with a bow i built with my own hands... I just started traditional archery less than two months ago.....I had never shot a recurve or long bow before then. I have just completed building my first long bow...Now i have to learn how to shoot it well. With with lots of practice, and determination, i hope to be consistantly accurate to 30 yards by september.
1. Hunt with my 16 year old daughter- her first year bowhunting. Starting with bears in May.
2. Help 3- 12 year olds (in-laws kids) get the bowhunting bug. Starting next week with gophers, have grouse and deer on the agenda for Sept.
3. Get my wife shooting her long bow more.
4. Sept - Dec. Slip a cedar through a Bighorn ram, Bull moose, and then chase deer and elk. Cougars in Dec.
Terry
1. Spend more time hunting with good friends
2. Get a turkey with Rover Gal Hope
I've been bowhunting for many years {30} and have been blessed to take many animals but most of them have come by the way of the compound bow [CONFESSION is good for the soul}; I love traditional bow and what traditional stands for so this year will be focused on shooting the recurve more and reading more books on our great forefathers and hopefully attend a traditional rendezvou where there is NO ONE but traditional bowhunters and share a weekend with good people who know what it is to have good, clean fun;
BigAl - Need a place to hunt in NNY? Sent you a PM.
Finish building my first "home-made" bow. Get serious about PA bear hunting: put in the time planning and scouting and get a bear with my bow, from the ground.
I would like to get back to TX and hunt with CK and Mark Horne again before years end....ANY species ...ANY part of TX. But if I had to choose one...probably like to redeem myself and get a hog!
Would like to go on a hog hunt here in my home state sometime this year as well.
Hopefully get a deer in Washington state on my parents place towards the end of the year.
And Hopefully!..just be able to even encounter ANY deer within bow range here in SoCal, just to give me a glimmer of hope!!LOL Taken several with a rifle but never with a bow YET. But I will use any old excuse just to be able to get up into the mountains or hills....just to be there,... even if I never take another deer in Cali as long as I live. So many fond memories would have never been, had I not made an excuse to get out in the outdoors.
Mark
Being a new trad hunter I want to kill something besides time. Be it a deer, turkey, squirrel, rabbit or coyote. I am already the best time killer I know while hunting (only 2 deer this past season).
Perfect cutting the point tapers so they are uniform all the way around the shaft and look great.
Build the perfect back quiver.
Build some kind of side stalker quiver that is fuctional and not too bulky.
Find a friend that lives close and either shoot trad with them or convert them to trad. Second to that is getting good enough with a recurve that I can out shoot a buddy with his compoud, the one that asked me if I was really going to hunt 'with that thing'.
To hunt more and not let work get in the way.
To go on my first hunts with my bow.
To be able to harvest my first critter with my OJAM selfbow!
Draw the tag and hunt pronghorn with the same bow. Maybe that'll be the first critter to fall to that bow!
While it may not sound initially like a hunting goal it is;
"Their is a big difference between making a living and making a life".
Maya Angelou
That pretty much soms up my hunting goals this year.Do less of one so I can make time for the other.
Have fun, connect with nature and friends, and be a better hunter, a better archer than last year
F-Manny
I figure I'll take it one goal at a time. The first runner up is a black bear with one of my home made arrows, probably Doug Fir. Currently, I'm torn between a couple of my old longbows and my new recurve. I've been trying the last six years to get a bear but, as always, feel THIS is my year!!!
Then it's on to Sitka blacktails, mtn goat, and possibly moose.
Kill a nice buck and doe in IL while hunting with my son again this year.
Bill
Take a whitetail with my longbow on some public land I'm hunting in Oklahoma.
I have six (that I can think of right off but sure there are more) that are trad related the first one being by far the top with the other ones bunched up a ways behind.
1)Get permission to hunt on the land I grew up on and set up my friend and fellow tradganger up to get a great nebraska buck.
2) Get my first big game tradkill ( preferably a big muley, then a whitetail but anything will do).
3) Get my effective shooting range from the 15 yd range I'm at up to 20 yards.
4) Get in much better shape to make hunting more enjoyable and to maybe help me be able to do it a few more years.
5) Try my hand at making a knife or two.
6) Start saving a money for a hunting trip..ANYWHERE hopefully with tradgangers.
goal#1: step out of my house, go huntin', and have fun :)
goal#2: sit still for more than just an hour ;)
It will be pretty tough to top last year but I have some unique opportunities this year and I hope I can make good on them. My home field hunting has suffered the last few years and I'm looking forward to doing more of that with my close friends this year. Hope to catch more of the memories on film too, already got a good start with my Canon GL2 in Texas last month.
I'd really like to stick with just one bow and get incredibly good with it, which means shootimg more too. I just can't seem to stop building them though :D

Triple up for the first time - turkey, deer and elk...
jake
To hunt hard, but have fun doing it. To enjoy nature and the people I will be in camp with. To "do it right" when it matters.
John III
#1 To take a branch antlered bull elk w/ my longbow.
#2 Fill every tag I have.
#3 Enjoy the heck out of myself.
#4 Take my kids hunting alot.
#5 Make all shots clean kills.
Shoot my first Trad deer! I WILL DO THIS!!
Hatchet Jack
My hunting goals for this year are:
1. Tree a mountain lion that is large enough my hunting partner, Lenny Brown, will shoot it. He has turned down two this year and there are only twelve days left in the season. (Fresh snow this morning but no new tracks :( ). Also, to tree, photograph, and then release a dozen cats next season.
2. Take an antelope with the Little Delta Bow in late August.
3. Take a turkey, bear, and elk, using a selfbow, cane arrows, and Doug Campbell trade points.
4. Make a selfbow that I like a much as Pigger, my old one who is now retired. However, if I fail to make a good one, Pigger will act like Michael Jordan and Garth Brooks and come out of retirement for one last season :goldtooth:
5. To enjoy myself perusing the above goals, even should I fail to kill any animals.
I want to shoot a deer with the Little Delta Bow and it is coming my way. My other goal is to go elk hunting with my buddys and help them call in and cut up and haul out a couple of big bull elk. I was lucky enough to shoot a nice bull last year and I would love to help my 2 elk hunting buddys do the same this year!!!
I'm truly looking forward to git back down to the South Georgia woods with my bestest huntin' buddy ever, and loose a shaft solidly into that wily 6 pointer that never wanted to stand still for me last Fall.
One has already came true, go on a hunt with other Trad gang members. Texas sweat was my best hunting trip ever.
Two is to go back and hunt pigs with Curtis and some buddys.
Three is enjoy the summer shooting with friends around Grand Rapids and going to Comptons.
Forth will be hope to see ya all somewhere on the trail.
Brent
Number one goal is to get through all of my hunts without anyone getting hurt or breaking down on the road trips.
Another goal is to help a couple of buddies with their first archery elk kills.
I will have elk and antelope tags in Wyoming, elk in Colorado, and 2 or three whitetail tags in Iowa that I would like to get filled before I tire out. I am working hard at being in better physical condition than I have been in several years.
I have never been hog hunting or exotic hunting and would like to try my hand at that before this time next year. If my schedule can accomodate it I would like to go on a tradgang sponsored hunt next winter or early spring.
My first year hunting traditional so my only goal is taking my first deer with my LB. Doe, buck, big rack, little rack, no rack, it doesn't matter. Got to do a lot more shooting though or my deer is gonna have to run over me to be in my effective range.
Improve shooting, fill the freezer. Jonesy
I'll turn 38 this Sept, and will finsh a 20 yr career in the service of our great country. As luck would have it I will go out the door with saved vacation the second week of Oct, and continue getting paid until 31 Dec. I've missed many hunting seasons over the last 20yrs, and I'm going to try to make up for that this year. My only expectation is to enjoy life.
My personal goal is to certify as many young hunters as possible. It would be a great peace of mind knowing that when I can no longer pull back a bow.. that there is plenty of the next generation out there passing it on. (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v319/SteveMcD/ani_smiley_shooting.gif)
i started my goal last year when i killed two squirrels with stone points. this year i hope to kill a deer with stone. while i'm at it, i would glady welcome the opportunity to kill a fox or coyote with stone.
I just want to learn to shoot better! That alone would be enjoyment enough for me.
My goal is to take my first big game animal.
My goal as always it to hit what I'm aiming at. :)
