Title: removing riser finish
Post by: HACKSAW on March 29, 2007, 04:43:00 PM
I picked up some paint remover that was suppose to be good for poly- varnish etc. Didn't touch the finish on the old bow.Don't know if it is fuller plast or some other real bow finish.
Any help will be great so I don't have to keep buying stuff that doesn't work.
Thanks
Hacksaw

You may want to try wome automotive wet/dry sandpaper, use a bowl of water and wet sand it.  I would start with 400 grit.  If your wood is stained, be very careful so you stop once you get through the finish and to the wood.  If no stain, just natural wood, not as critical.
Take your time.

Your bow probably has a two-part catalyzed finish.  They're just about impervious to strippers, but as Dan says, they can't stand up to sandpaper.
