I have a trip or two coming up this year and want to get a sturdy, airplane proof case that holds both a TD bow (or two)and arrows. I saw the double recurve SKB online but was wondering about the foam cut outs. What if they don't fit my riser or limbs? Any recommendations?

Just an option, I used a short rifle case and traced out the shape of the limbs on the foam then took a box cutter to it and presto!, a custom fit. I think the brand was Field Line or Flambeau or something. It wasn't expensive but if I had the money, I'd go with a Pelican or SKB.
Oh yeah, I've done lots of traveling with this settup and it's been great. I even cut the foam out of the lid and made enough room to support a dozen arrows along with 2 t/d longbows on the other half.

Will this do you? This is a standard $30 arrow case, available at most archery stores, with a Black Widow TD and a Hill TD, plus arrows. If you double the arrows up in the slots, you can get almost 2 dozen in there, but I find one more comfy. Both of my Widows will fit in this. This Hill is a 60" TD. My Hill Cheetah TD that is 66" won't quite make it. I'm waiting on a Redman 62" and the pair will be in this case going to the NALS with me this summer.
I finished out one of these, put felt in the bottom and made it all a bit nicer, but that one is on loan to someone else and I had this one handy for the photo.

forgot to add... a piece of 1/4" foam or a piece of blanket cut to size gets laid between the top and bottom when you close it.

If you can find one Hoppe made a real good hard case. Hoppe doesn't make them anymore. I'd check E-Bay. Mine holds both my 60" take down's and two dozen arrows, plus nocking pliers, square and other small items. If you leave out six arrows you can get a bow quiver in there too. It also has locking clasps.

I just used my double ski case for my trip to Texas. It adjusts for lenght, is lockable and is tough as nails. This is a great time to buy one also. Usually around $150.00 in your ski shops, but should be clearance NOW. My has wheels on one end, makes it great for airporting. And they just pass it right on through, no extra charges. I packed 1-takedown in its case. One 1pc longbow 2 dz arrows, knives, broadheads, clothes, packs, and my sleeping bag in it. Could have put more in it, but just knew they where gonna look in side! The TSA guys last comment to me was remind me not to open your stuff any more! They are designed for two pairs of skis, so they are tough! And adjustable for lenght! And when you are limited to two checked luggage it really shines. I really hate this but SWEET!

Oh yeah the TSA guys and gals have to repack your stuff themselves, without your help or touching it! Mine was more than happy to let me install my lock back on it though! :bigsmyl:

Norb, 3Rivers sells a tubular case (PVC pipe covered with canvas) with separate sleeves inside. I used it in Alaska last year with a t/d recurve, a dozen arrows, and assorted little doodads. Weighed about four pounds empty, took up very little room, and fit inside my duffle bag.
