Title: Shelf Wear ?!?!?
Post by: INstickbowguy on March 26, 2007, 09:14:00 PM
Getting a bit of shelf wear between the leather shelf material and grip on the  outside of the shelf radius....shooting red head 350's with 4" RW Parobolic feathers....200 gr points.....never noticed it until today....then again i never really looked....shot Full Metal Jacket 400's yesterday with 5 " LW feathers and 125 gr points....just noticed it today.....arrows are flying super with absolutely no noise at all....bow is super quiet....think the RW feathers caused it...also there is about a 1/16 in gap between the arrow rest and rip where i can see the worn area...should the rest cover that area also ? Or should there be a small gap like there is ? What can i use to cover the worn area? True oil maybe ? Thanks

change your feathers to left hand if you are a  right hand shooter.

Tru-oil will work fine to repair the damaged area.

Are righties supposed to shoot LW and lefties shoot RW feathers? I didn't think it mattered.

how much higher should i move the nocking point? maybe a nock width higher ? to get the glossy finish out of the true oil...would applying numerous thin coats with a rag give it that look ? thanks

In...what do your arrows look like ?   When strung, does it look like there could be feather contact ?  Are the feathers damaged or worn (at that point in flight, the arrow shouuld not yet be spinning so only the one feather that is near the spot if a concern).  How about the arrow itself, the last three or four inches.  Any sign of wear.  I agree with Voodoo that you might want to look at more than just the feathers.  If you move yor nock, I would move it only slightly in several tries, like 1/8" at a time.  Whay is your setting (Nock) right now ?

Jake if the arrow is hitting the shelf hard enough to remove the finish and cause nicks, I'd move it up at least 1/8" inch first time, you may even have to move it up a little more, try using a dry erase marker on the edge of the shelf to check to see if you got it right, and check periodicaly too, I have a bow that has went from 3/8ths high to 1" in less than a year, don't know why either, same arrows, same release, same me,same tiller, heck even using the same glove, puzzler for sure.......................Steve

from just looking at it....the nock point appears fine ...as it sits a bit higher than the shelf....but i will move it....thanks

In, I brought up another post a bit ago, mainly to discuss this point.  Nock point. Don't know what happened to it.

Remember, if a (string)nock point is only as much above horizontal as the thickness of the (arrow)nock, it is essentially at or below a horizontal approach for the arrow.  It needs to be above that to actually raise the arrow itself above 90 degrees.

Did I say that OK ?
