Title: If you could only own one recuve bow
Post by: Stone Knife on March 24, 2007, 11:53:00 AM
If you could only own one recurve bow what would it be? Please include make, model, length, poundage at your draw length.

Chek-mate Hunter 2 62" 60@29
Widow TF 62" 60@29
Widow SA 62" 60@29
Blacktail Elite 62" 60@29
Rose Oak King Panther 64" 65@29

Rivers edge arroyo
Kota prarie swift
Robertson falcon
Schafer silvertip
..... see, I have a real issue with that "one bow" thing.
But, The CM hunter2, to me is like the lead head jig in my fishing tacklebox.  It ain't the prettiest or fanciest and it certainly didn't cost much, but it always works well.  ;)

If I could have only one, it would be a longbow! But in keeping with your question, the last of my recurves to go would be a old magnesium A-risor Bear takedown with No. 3 60# limbs.

RER Arroyo 54" 53#@28" No stack all the way to 30" as far as I can feel. Very smooth and quiet even withouit silencers. Shot the snot otta one at the WTA banquet. Bill W was and is just amazed at this little bow. And for good reason. <><

So far it would have to be a Robertson Vison Falcon, 62" and 57# @ 29".  But I haven't tried them all yet, so my quest continues.......  ;)

My pick is a Bob Lee Hunter Pro, 45# @ 26". It's a 54" one piece recurve that will fit just right in a blind.

I have a Schafer on order that's supposed to arrive in August. I might change my mind then.

I'd have a hard time choosing between a Habu VyperKahn 64" 55# @28" or Blacktail Elite VL with same specs.  But I'd probably go with a Blacktail because it looks so good and performs pretty good as well.

The best recurve bow that I have ever had is a Black Widow 53# @ 26.

It would be hard to pick just one, but if I had to, it would be Rose Oak Wildcat 50# @ 26"   58"

I'll second the Rose Oak bows. But I prefer my new 58"50#@28" Puma Hunter. Brandon has a new limb design that is very fast and quite and it feels great in your hand. For about $500 they're a tough bow to beat. Mike

Only One Recurve?...That's easy!...I'm happy with my Black Widow TFV Ironwood...60", 51# @ 26"...This bow has served me well since 2002 and has been rained on, stepped on, fell out of bear stands, thrown about, but most of all...Saved me from a broken wrist during a fall on the rocks...

I Love My Widow...And All Her Battle Scars!

Thanks for asking Jim!

Even though I don't own any anymore I can honestly say out of all the recurves I owned and shot I would have to say a Robertson Peregrine as far as a one piece recurve.

I would go with my Jack Kempf Kwyk Styk I will have two sets of limbs 56"s and one 48# and one 55#s at 28"s. A very, very close second though would be my Rivers Edge Arroyo, they are sweet bows mine is 54"s and 54#s at my 28.5" draw. Shawn

Jim,
I have to agree with Shawn on this one. You know I only shoot longbows now, but I've shot alot of recurves in the past dozen yrs and even bought and sold a BW. When I shot Guru's Kwyk Styk I told myself, if I was too buy a new bow, it would be a kwik styk.

I just shoot a couple of new wings that felt nice.

Get to some trad shoot'sand test drive befor you commit to all the Honey Do's you've signed onto below in the fine print.

DAS GenII riser with either Win&Win WinEx limbs or Border HEXIV ILF limbs.  I'm awaiting the DAS inserts for the Border limbs so I can shoot them on the DAS riser.  The WinEx limbs are a great shooting set of limbs.  Based on my experience with a Border bow, I suspect they, too, will shoot very well off the DAS riser.

I shoot longbows almost exclusively, and have for a long time, but the one recurve I have in my rack is a 60-inch, 55#@28 inches bamboo lamed Great Northern Ghost.  Over the years, I've shot a lot of recurves, but have never found one better.

I find I could be happy with most recurves out there as there are so many equally as good.  However, if I had to choose only one in a one piece bow it would be...

Fedora 560 60" @52-55#

I've only shot about fifteen different make one piece recurves to date.
