With all the great Silvertip threads, photos, the whole Paul Schafer "thing", etc., I thought "I need to try one of these."
In speaking with Beth at the Schafer place, we arranged for me to get my hands on a bow that was "around" 60 pounds, to try out. (any weight close to that is fine for me)
Well, it was due to arrive today, and it did. (by the way, Beth is terrific to deal with)
I left work thinking "be objective, calm down, think this through, really test it out, etc."
I have two "decent bows", but at this point in life, I feel I deserve a real good bow, now that I am back into trad, in a big way.
Anyway, my "be objective" comments went right out of the window when I opened the box. Wow, what amazing workmanship! Dave W. is one talented guy.
It went together flawlessly, and quickly.
Brace and nock height was right on the money.
I went outside, and set up the target. I wasn't sure what to expect, after all, it's just a bow, right?
It was really amazing. Totally amazing. I tried various shafts on it, and found one weight it really seemed to like.
I was backing up further and further, and just dropping arrows into the middle of the target.
I'm shooting at (for me) an amazing distance, and
the arrows are still dropping right in the middle of the target. Tight groups. As in: go get the camera, you have never shot like this in hour life.
In fact, at one point, I'm yelling "are you KIDDING me???!" That's how amazing this was to shoot. (I'm thinking: "no wonder Paul shot long distance: he had one of these!")
If you ever said to yourself "I wonder what one of those things shoots like??", take it from me, it was incredible.
After this, I'd have to say that a Silvertip is one of the "finer" things in life.
It's a shame I have to return this one in a few days!! (56 pound, fast flight, by the way. Not sure of the wood, though. but it is truly stunning.)
Thanks for listening, I had to share this.
Rich
:bigsmyl: THATS what a guy needs to hear! Heh, now I hafta look at yet another bow...I wonder what the limit is on number of bows per household?
Jeff
Exactly. I see some of the guys that have multiple silvertips.. now I know why!!
One more thing: I'm a mature guy, not prone to make wild claims, get carried away, etc.
If you knew me, you'd say "he's even tempered"
I'm now walking around in a fog, THAT'S how amazing that bow was to shoot.
I better go lay down...
longbow or recurve?
This is why I have 6 of them.........
And I am not done yet.......
They are flat out awesome!
And the Windauer's are AWESOME also.
Take-down recurve.
Tim: wow, do I sure get what you are talking about!
I have not spoke to Dave, yet. But Beth and I have traded plenty of e-mails, and she has been wonderful.
I'm still walking around the house going "wow..incredible..amazing" to myself.
Welcome to the fold. :jumper:
Silvertips. ' Nuff said...excellent quality, craftsmanship, and service.
Welcome to the World of Silvertip's, Rich, they are in a class of their own!
You guys are killing me! I've got about 2 months or so to wait for mine. Already over halfway done! I'm really pumped!
man i still got 5 months
:bigsmyl:
Rich, I know how you feel. I love mine.
i strongly second everything said above.... :^)
But how can you return it? I'd prolly have to keep it for some good excuse if I was THAT impressed.
My 4th is supposed to arrive tommorrow. Can't wait. All bocote, checkered grip, sheep horn tips, etc.
ALLIGATORDOND you gotta post some pics
Rich, Keep it, you're gonna kick yourself if you don't.
I was going to let this rest a bit, because I'm actually tired today, as I was laying in bed replaying the image of those arrows thunking beautfully into the target, all night.
And if you think they look good in photos, wait 'till you see one in person. wow.
I can see where the addiction/obsession comes in:
If I bought a few of these (!), I'd want to add onto the house, to have a special "archery room" to keep them stored in. Maybe a bigger house?
Where does it end?? ;)
i also agree you should keep THAT bow. all 'tips are awesome but that one seems like it has a certain special feel for you.
You know how dag gum hard it is ti find a bow that shoots like that for an individual?Every bow has it's own personality,i would right them a check for that one!!!
45 +/- days and counting. I had the same experience with how the bow performed and in dealing with Beth & Dave.
Since my test drive I have purchased a used 60" from the classifieds here and am still eager for my custom to arrive.
DonD, where in Fl are you ?
Eric , I'm in Melbourne. Have 3 silvertips,3 Robertsons and a few assorted others. When it's time to order I choose either a Silvertip or Stykbow. The Silvertip recurve shoots a little better groups for me but the Stykbow longbow I have is the most natural shooting bow I have ever held.
And yes, the new Silvertip arrived at 6:34pm today via UPS. I made my wife wait to go out to dinner so I wouldn't miss the delivery. It's a beaut.60" 54# @ 24" all bocote, checkered grip(a must) and sheep horn tips. Still have yet to shoot it - about 8 hours or so. Dave, I tip my hat to you .
ttt
Keith, you have a pm. I will post a pic if I can figure out how .
Welcome to the Dark Side! Just kidding! Love my Silvertip.
Keith, if ya can't wait that long, you can shoot mine for a little while at Baltimore this year!
Lee
Thanks Mike, Will do in a day or so.
thank you lee i might take you up on that
Silvertips are so easy to tune. They make my crappy shooting ability look great.
Thanks for trying Mike
