I'm going to pick out a stave tomorrow and i'm just wondering how much they are going for now.
The guy im going to said he does'nt hav many left just some he set aside for his personal use but said i could dig through them if i did'nt want to many. I told him i was just looking for one to work on.
I was just wondering what to give him for it.
Depends on straightness, growth rings, twists, knots etc. If fairly nice anywhere from $45-$90. If it has a lot of issues less.
Thanks for the quick reply. Like I said it's his personal stash so I'm thinking it will be premium stuff.
If it is premium, I would plan on around $100. Sometimes you can pick up a gem for a lot less, but I've paid more for just the right one.
Mike
Mike say it ain't so.... You've "bought" Osage??.... Terry
Thanks guys I'll be leaving in about 5 min. I'll post and let you know how I did.
Musta been a long trip..or he's having trouble deciding on which stave to take :saywhat:
prolly couldn't wait and now he's making his bow...or the stave was still in the tree. :)
They got in an argument over whether or not a character stave can still be a premium piece or not - :knothead: :banghead: and they're still at it - :D
Well It's nice to be missed. I got back about 4:30 this afternoon. Only 160 miles round trip. But there was the usual B.S. session for about two hours. Then we went and dug through the pile. After that was over I had to look at the original 1965 Electra Glide he just picked up, that was another hour.
I got a really nice stave about 66" long. I plan on taking pics. this time on all the different steps. Once I figure how to post pics. I'll post some of the stave. I (stole) got it from him for $55.
Sounds like ya done good, from what the others said.
Yep sounds like ya done good.
a '65 Electra Glide huh? Cool.
osage has been going for an arm and a leg on **** lately. thinking about putting some of my "private select" staves up for auction. need to make room for this years harvest anyway.
This will be my 2nd attempt at a selfbow. The first one came out a little on the light side but it shoots. I got the stave fom the same guy. He said it would make a good bow. He was'nt kidding it had it all. It turned out to be a real character bow. It took me a while to finish that one but I learned a lot. Hope this one goes quicker.
I just bought a premium osage stave taken down to 1 ring on an auction site (e something or another) cost me 26 bucks for the stave and 10 bucks shipping
