I've decided to start making my own bowstrings,But I need to buy a string jig.I could make one,but it be easier for me to just buy one.I noticed 3rivers and kustom king sell one,are they the same?Anyplace sell them?
build one. Pick up "doin the twist" it's all the information you need.
It might be easier but it wouldn't take but about 15 minutes and some scrap lumber and a few nails to make your own. check the how to section.
Yea I bought doin the twist and made my own. You get the really good video plus plans to make your own, for about 5 bucks cheaper than buying one.
I would definately second the video. I bought a video too, which showed how to make the jig and the strings, but was considering just buying the jig first. The nice guy at 3 Rivers talked me into the video years back.
Glad he did. The jig was easy as pie to make. The strings were another story. No way I could have bought the jig and then read the instructions on the making of the actual string. Even with the video and seeing it done before me, I screwed up MANY strings. Learning to make bows was less frustrating to me than strings.
Without a question of doubt - get the Doin' the Twist video. Making a Flemish string jig is easier than falling off a log, and the video shows how along with GREAT string building instructions.

Rob.
I have the string board dimensions from the DVD. PM me your email addy if you want them.
The jig is simple to make, but like anything else you need good instructions. My advice is to be sure to get (or make) a board that goes by string length, not bow length, because a lot of bows don't go by AMO specs.
I'm in the process of making up some boards for folks that don't want to make their own--should have them ready in a couple of weeks. I also have string maker's wax and Cajun serving tools available. Hope to have all of these on my site before too long (www.recurves.com).
