Title: String Questions
Post by: Guru on March 18, 2007, 07:59:00 PM
1.) What's the diff. between TS-1(I use TS-1 now) and TS-1 plus? And are they compatible?

2.) Does anyone pad their loops on a "modern" string material with dacron? Would it help in any way? Quieter maybe?

Also I'd like to say that Chad's "Doin' The Twist" string making DVD is excellent!!  I've only been making strings for 2 years now and learned from the Three Rivers video. It explains the basics very well and is great. "Doin' The Twist" goes to the next level of string making

They are the same diameter. TS-1 Plus has become TS Plus And TS-1 looks to be gone in the new Brownell catalog and they have a new material called xcell now. .14 95# breaking weight on the TS-1 plus

Curt it is my understanding that TS-1 and TS-1plus are the same material. Just a name change from what I heard from the Brownell rep. Padding the loops with B50 does quiet things some. I wouldn't say dramatically but it does help.

Curt,
As best as I know, the loop padding is priamrily there to lessen the shock on the bow's tips & string nocks when the low stretch material comes to a stop as the bow returns to brace height after release.

I'm no help with the TS-1, as I only use BCY string material--sorry.

I use dacron to pad my loops.  For many years I'd only use the same material as the string was made of, but after a few years of researching it dacron seems to work just fine, and can help quieten the string some.

Thanks for the good word on the DVD!

How are the loops padded? Are they just wrapped with mor material? How does it affect the string staying in the nocks?

I have been padding my loops with dacron for a few years now on FF and D97.The way I pad my loops is I take the dacron and run it around my square however many strands I want. Then cut them and add those pieces to the end of my string,I stagger them. And they blend in like the flemish string stagger cut.And that length of padding works out great for me.I too think it helps to quieten the bow some,I think making the padded loops helps spread the load.Which in turn makes it alittle quieter.I may be wrong but it works for me.
