Anybody know the value of one of these bows? The bow is 62" 60# at 27.5". Serial number appears to be #1780. I know the bow was built in the early 90's. I shot it today and it really hammers an arrow. The bow is in good condition, has been hunted but not much. I could pick it up for $350. I really don't need another bow but these bows arn't real common so I was thinking of getting it while I can.
This bow looks just like the Silvertip but it does also say "Ghost" in the inscription on the handle. For that matter it probably is a Silvertip but maybe "Ghost" was some other model designation.
Thanks!
Now this is taking me way back and my memory is not the best.
The Schafer Ghost and Schafer Screaming Eagle I THINK were production bows patterned after the Silvertip but not made by Schafer. Martin may have been the manufacturer and the Screaming Eagle was sold by, well Screaming Eagle.
Value- subjective. If it feels, looks and shoots like a Silvertip and you plan on using it , probably a good deal. If you are looking at it for an "investment" I'm not so sure.
Others, please feel free to correct my info if not accurate. As I said this is my recollection and the accuracy may be off.
Actually , wasn't it called the "Silver Ghost?"
I know two guys that have them both left handed.
They were called Silver Ghost.
I think they were a colaberation between Mr. Schafer and Martin Archery but can't remember who made which parts. I think Shafer made the riser.
Very nice bows for the money. They don't turn up for sale very often.
Yes it does say Silver Ghost and it is signed by Paul Schafer and has a "good hunting" or some such salutation also.
Joe if I recall, They weren't made for that long of a time so there may be something to the value. I actually once owned the prototype made by Paul for Martin, or so that is what Paul told me. Couldn't shoot it(was too light at my draw). I sold it to a buddy who still has it,albeit with replacement limbs(the Florida sun and a brain fart can damage a good set of limbs quick). Post a pick if you get it.
In the late '80's I almost ordered a ST from Paul had the flier and I remember the S.Ghost at that time was more of Schafers Production and the ST was the custom deluxe.
In reality, many of the Silver Ghosts were made by Paul himself. The colaboration didn't cover the entire duration the SGs were produced and it is possible, even likely, the SG you may be purchasing was made by Paul. The fact is was signed and personalized may mean it was start to finish a Schafer bow. As such, $350 is a steal!!! I had a chance to buy one with letter explaining why Paul was making them....I could have got it for $650 and felt that was a real deal!!!
I own that bow Bob......
Complete with letter from Paul stating he made it along with being signed by Paul. And this bow does not have a single mark on it trust me. It is "As New"

Joe; as an owner of many Silvertips, I can tell you that at $350 that Ghost is a steal!! If I didn't have so many Bows it would be in my Bow Stable!!!
Nice looking bow, Tim
