Hi all. I am a new member and was wondering if anyone could lend me a hand with hunting in Texas. I am interesting in hunting hogs and coming to Texas for a internship at the end of April and just wanted to know what is involved hunting there. I have a valid license in Ontario but don't know if it is valid in Texas.
Thanks!
Matt
What area of Texas are you coming to? Theres one called Stick N String Outfitters in Jacksonville. You can go to bob lees site, a sponsor here, and click on bowhunting links, and it will be listed under there. Justin
I will be in Austin and thank you for the info.
You might even try Curtis at 7th age bowhunting also a sponsor never went with him but after all the stories and looking at his website I WILL someday...Another thing you might check figure out about what it costs to get a license in texas and find some public ground near by never know ya might find some good spots.
your gonna have to buy an out of state license. I think its like 300 bucks. But texas hooks you up. It aint like colorado where you pay that for one stinkin tag. You buy a license in texas and you can shoot everything, including 5 deer and 4 turkey.
how long you gonna be in Texas
No beard the following is direct from the Texas Parks and Wildlife site.
Non-resident 5-Day Special Hunting (Type 157): $45
Legal for any period of 5 consecutive days (valid hunting dates will be printed on the license when issued). Valid to hunt: Exotic animals, all legal game birds (except turkeys), all nongame animals, squirrel, javelina and alligator (not valid for other game animals, NOT VALID FOR DEER). Stamp endorsement requirements apply.
A hunting license is not required to hunt the following:
Coyotes, if the coyotes are attacking, about to attack, or have recently attacked livestock, domestic animals, or fowl.
Depredating feral hogs, if a landowner (resident or non-resident) or landowner's agent or lessee is taking feral hogs causing depredation on the landowner's land.
Fur-bearing animals, if the hunter possesses a trapper's license or if the fur-bearing animals are causing depredation.
if your just hunting hogs the license is $45.00 I think for 5 days in TX. It's something like that. Not very expensive. If your around Chester (2hr S. of Dallas and 1hr. N. of Houston)look into Hunt-N-Shoot. You'll have a blast and a lot of shot opportunity.
WOW! Thanks a lot guys that really helped a lot!
As for the question from txcookie, as of right now im planning on being in Austin for about 6 weeks or so.
Matt,
There is only a small game license required for hogs. It is a year long license as well. If you are taking up residence in Austin you can wait 90 days and get a resident license for $48.00 and it includes turkey, deer and gator.
I was from Oshawa and moved to Houston about 3 years ago. Lots of places to hunt hogs! You can get out for day hunts - about $75.00 per day and take unlimited hogs at some places. Others have limits. I hunt hogs here about 35-40 times a year now! It's a blast and the meat is great too. Good luck.
matt flungonin is right about hunt and shoot palmer and howie are to pretty good guys i got three there last month on an impromptue hunt
Basically Texas hogs can be hunted any way, any how. Drop me a PM when you get here, I have a line on some public land hunting with a fella on the Leather Wall. I'm in San Antonio about a hour South of Austin.
