Title: 3 piece Recurve vs 1 piece
Post by: Black Gold on March 15, 2007, 03:07:00 PM
Other than the ability to change weight w/ diff limbs what is the benefit of 3 piece vs 1 piece....or is it just personal preference?

Be easy on a new TB'r!

Packability and generally a tad heavier making it more stable on a shot.

Having lived through a split limb with a 1 piece that rendered the best fitting handle I have had worthless, I would recommend a three piece so that if a limb breaks, it can be replace.  You hear a lot about broken limbs, but rarely a broken handle.

I prefer a one piece for feel but, traveling makes it difficult so I travel with a three piece.

Hey Cody!

The TD bow was originally designed so it could be broke down, carried in a pack into the deep woods, on a airplane ect, then easily put back together for hunting. There are several TD design's out there and the Bear TD design is probably the best known. One of my TD's have limb bolts made out of antler burrs so I can put the bow together without the use of any tools. The risers in TD bows tend to be beefier because of the internal hardware they carry, hence the more bow weight and considered a more stable shooting bow. The TD bow also gives you the option to add different length or weighted limbs while using the same familiar riser. It is my prefered type of bow design because of the different options it offers.

Welcome aboard!

Personally I would get a two bolt TD bow like the Bob Lee. I know of a guy that lost an eye whan an insert failed. I know it is rare but they have been some cases.I've never heard of a two bolt failing.

I've seen takedowns with cracked risers but never a one piece with a cracked riser.

I have a few 1 piece bows and one TD's.  I see no advantage in performance with a TD vs a 1 piece.  The difference is my TD's is custom made (whatever that means) and I have three different sets of limbs for it.  Some faster, some slower.  Just different poundage limbs.

One of the things I like about my one piece bows is that they are all lighter than my TD.  But my weapon of choice is my TD.  It's custom made (whatever that means).  Maybe I use it more because it cost so much.

I think a one piece has smoother lines, better looking.Take downs are handy to travel with but for the most part they are always screwed together.
