I love neck knives just as much as Big Bowies and skinners. I wear one hunting deer and bushytails and rabbits. anybody else like them and wear one hunting? And PLEASE by all means post pics if ya like! :bigsmyl:
I have one of yours frank and like it a-lot...ED
Funny you should ask this question. I just posted pics of one I just finished.
I love neck knives Frank and wear them alot when deer hunting. It takes a lot less knife to filet a deer than most people think. This year I wore a flint neck knife but never got the chance to use it. :(
Here I had just come in from a morning hunt and was warming up with a cup of hot tea...still wearing the knife LOL
(http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v247/theferret111/DSCF3315.jpg)
Beautiful knife Kenny.
Here's a pic of the blade
(http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v247/theferret111/Texas07.jpg)
Well heck I'm in good company. Hey kenny I can't see the blade. But love the wood. Mick you always have the bestest stuff. Ed wish I could remember which one you got?LOL. BTW mick you are right IMO about a small knife being plenty for dressing game.<><<><
Frank, I love'em too. They are handy and out of the way around the neck. Have a Campbell neck knife on order Coco and Osage handle.
Still trying to get my hands on one of yours!LOL Every I see ya post one I like, somebody beats me to the punch! Dad gummit! I'll keep trying. :banghead:
Ferret turn off the lights, trying to see the knife...
Man is that a perfrect one.. ;)
My Sicilian wife asked if I would like a neck knife,, I said sure, then decided not after the gleem in her big brown eyes.
LOL Sorry about that Kingstaken...the more I see pictures of myself, the more I'm looking like a short G Fred :biglaugh:
Ferret, coming from a guy with an ugly head full of scars as I do, there's no doubt in mind that the Man upstairs gave others that are hairchallenged Perfect lQQking ones. and ya not so bad yaself ;)
Here ya go Frank!
Looks like I need a class in camera use! :knothead: :knothead:
Kinda looks like a Doc Tippit. Mick remember.... God made just a few perfect heads. And rest He covered with hair. Ok what is the max size you guys think should be for a neck knife.<><
Neck knife? won't leave home without one. Here's two that mean a great deal to me. The one on the left is from Adkmountainman it's a forged ML knife with osage handle. The left one is from Sticshooter special carbon blade bothe very sharp and keep me in good spirits. (http://i44.photobucket.com/albums/f29/mrviclisco/neckknifes.jpg)
Frank here are a couple I like for my hands. About 6" OA length. Handle about 4" long (just like a good selfbows) blade showing is 2"-2 1/2" long x 1" wide, plus the tang in the handle.
Well thank you Vic. But my knives do not compare to ML. He makes a awesome knife. I am glad ya like the knife. Micky how are the blades held in? I have a stone blade sitting in the shop. I may just have to make it up for ya since ya like stone.<><
smaller the better in my opinon...cool pics ....Micky I love urs brother... :)
I never liked them much until I got this Doug Campbell knife from Danny. I will have to start wearing it with quivers and binoculars to see if it gets in the way before I decide to wear it hunting. suspect it will ride just fine!

Killdeer :archer:
Killie if it gets in the way you know what ya can do? You can tie it to your quiver if you use a back quiver or hip quiver while hunting.<><
3"
Yep 3" is a great size blade for a neck knife. here are just a couple of mine one is from ClintV and the other is from Tippit. The other 3 are CheatRs. I carry a 4" blade hunting most of the time. That is when i get a chance to hunt!

This may be a dumb question BUT..I like the idea and there are some awesome ones out there. BUT how do you guys keep them outta the way when shooting, moving around a lot.etc??
wear them under your shirt,i have one i wear everyday.
Here's mine:
A Doug Campbell (Damascus)from Harl (Tom Davidson):
A Marbles Blank made and from snakewood3 (Chuck Sinclair):
A "CheatR" (though I hate to use that name) from sticshooter (Frank S. himself):
A Loyd Lipert that I bid on & won in an auction:
I also have some others that could be used as a neck knife, like a sweet Caper from Dano and a couple of Old Timers I picked up at yard sales.
Frank the blades are fit just like a flint head or trade oint and set with either pitch or super glue, depending on the mood and how messy I want to get ha ha. Then the tangs get wrapped with artificial sinew covered with tite bond 3 (cause they are water and blood proof)
Killy when you wear your neck knife you'll find yourself packing a chunk of cheddar and a pepperoni stick in your pack. The knives are perfect for snackin' ;)
does anyone have a websight where I could get a well made neck knife.
Frank I LOVE that Tippet knife you have. It looks just like one he posted awhile back that I tried to talk him out of but it was already take. This one had antler scales though. What is the AOL of yours?
I thought I would try one and got one from sticshooter. Now if I am going outside it is on me at all times. I find it is easyer to get to then one on my belt, but that is mostly in the colder weather like ice fishing. I will not hunt without one.
me i love any sort of knife but yes kneck knives have there place.
Thanks Micky. Lewis that is one of the sweetest Tippit blades I think I have ever saw. Wolfman you will be getting a couple of blades soon one with a neck sheath. Bernie the LL knife is way cool. And that other one well it's just BLAH when sitting next to a LL.LOL<><
I'm gonna pick up this neck type knife from Buck:
http://www.buckknives.com/catalog/detail/564/234
I have heard it carries in a pocket nicely too. Should prove to be quite handy.
Jim
Helle Polar blade, deer antler w/hickory arrow shaft piece in the end. (//%5Burl=http://imageshack.us%5D%20%5Bimg%5Dhttp://img83.imageshack.us/img83/8613/knife003vc3.jpg) [/IMG]
Here is one you did for me Frank, and I like it. Always have it on me while out there.
Dang serge I can't beleive you kept that thing :scared: sorry buddy.I know you will have a better one very soon.<><
Hey Frank,I like this knife!! Nicely carved moose horn handle, nice sheath, sharp and very functional,What else do I need
Here are a few I've done in the past few months:
mikeg\\'s knife (http://home.earthlink.net/imagelib/sitebuilder/misc/show_image.html?linkedwidth=actual&linkpath=http://home.earthlink.net/~jsteflik1306/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/mikeg1.jpg&target=tlx_new)
Keith\\'s knife (http://home.earthlink.net/imagelib/sitebuilder/misc/show_image.html?linkedwidth=actual&linkpath=http://home.earthlink.net/~jsteflik1306/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/kd.jpg&target=tlx_new)
Phillip\\'s knife (http://home.earthlink.net/imagelib/sitebuilder/misc/show_image.html?linkedwidth=actual&linkpath=http://home.earthlink.net/~jsteflik1306/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/phillip.jpg&target=tlx_new)
I'm not sure what Mike did for a sheath on his, but Keith's sheath is the same as Phillip's. I wore Keith's around daily for over a month and cleaned/butchered two deer with it this year... handy little things!
Jeremy, great lQQking knives.
Hmmmmm
Philips knife and style with mikeg's wood handle materials. hhmmmm
Jeremy Phillip's knife looks like it hangs upside down. Does it? What keeps it from falling out? All three are very nice with Phillips being my fav.
I wear a "Snitch" kneck knife by Jim Burke (distributed by Randall King) daily under my shirt. I like it because it is flat and only 4.5" long when sheathed. I use it almost daily. Skinner.
Serge I am just messing with ya. If ya like it I am a happy man. But I am still sending ya another one. Jeremy those are really nice knives.<><
oh cool brother i will love that so much. man i cant wait. :notworthy: :notworthy: you guys are awesome thank you once again frank.
Yup, Phillip's and Keith's both hang blade up. The sheaths are both *extremely* tight fits. I had my doubts until I abused, err, I mean tested Keith's. :D Doing them that way makes it easier to get the knife out one handed. Mine hangs that way as well, just with a kydex sheath instead of leather.
Jeremy gave me that knife at Shawn's bunny hunt. I don't know how many times I checked to see if it was still there, but it was probably over 100. It seems like every time I crashed through something trying to push out a rabbit, I had to pat my chest to see if it was still there.
It is in there nice and tight, and it does come out easily when you want it. All in all it's a great design, and a great knife. It's got good mojo too... I got to use it on a rabbit the first day I got it.

Well I finally made a sheath for my little runt skinner. And as you can see I used a old bow string to hang it . BTW anybody got any old strings laying around I would be glad to put them to good use.<>< (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v83/fishrofmen1/DSCN1521.jpg) (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v83/fishrofmen1/DSCN1155.jpg)
Sticshooter, I have 1 string for ya. PM me the specifics.
Jeff
hey frank that is a cool neck knife bro
That neat Keith.
The last time Isaw you I think you had a big ol beard.
What are the dims on that knife Frank..that's a cool one too.
Mick the specs on this little runt are 2.5" Solingen blade and the OAL is 5.25".Handle is bocote with antler overlays. <><
Mickey, I believe that was several GORH's ago. My wife hates a beard... so...
You look the same, I remember that easy smile. :)
Nice knives Frank.
I have one of Franks a couple by other folks. Two with Obsidian blades, one mounted in a Racoon jaw bone. Skinned a couple of my boy's Muskrats with it.Maybe I can post a pic of them later.
Sticshooter, you going to Coon Rapids this year?
haven't actually made a sheath for her yet - but when i do she'll be a neck-knife! :D

Nice one Frank. I don't have a neck knife but if I did it would be similar to that one. I have a string or two for ya. PM me your address.
Thanks Guys. This little knife is really cool. This is the first sheath I waxed coated. Loyd Lippert told me about it a few months back. He did it to a sheath for one of his bowies that I have. Jock that there knife you got there is awesome. I remember them from St.Judes auction a couple of years ago. Someday I have to get me one like that. Some greatr little neck knives out there thats for sure. I have one that is 7" OAL and hangs great around the neck. Dont think anything over &' would sit to well.Brian that D blade looks great.<><
Brian, that is a sweet little blade!!
thanks guys - i picked it up in japan last year.
it has damascus outer layers with a "white steel" core (very high carbon).
this one is from a different maker and is deffinately small enough to qualify as a neck-knife.
and as a bonus i have a great hanging sheath for it already. :archer:

Man I love this stuff
Awesome knife and quiver Tippit. What kind of bone is that for the handle? Fraid I'd cut my rh index finger off with a 2 sided blade though LOL
Doc you AMAZE the HECK right out of me! Them are some great looking knives. Love the arrahead also.<><
Dang, would you all stop. I can't get nothin done for lookin at all these blades.
Brian, that first one was sweet the next one is out of this world.
Doc, you're gettin to the point, like DC, I just can't say anything to express the thoughts properly. Different style than DC's, but just as functional and beautiful. Now I'll shut up and look, like a rook should. :bigsmyl:
I gotta go back to sandin a kids yella bow.
Comon, lets see somemore pics!!!
More great knives. Hey Doc don't you have a story and pictures to be sharing in the Sweat thread? (I know you do)
Longbow357 - What a sweet knife!!!!!!!!!!
Simple and beautiful!!!
Jake
Wish I had a cool one to show everybody, in the process of making one though, will show when finished.
Thanks to all for the pics and ideas.
Some quality stuff here
Here's one I just made a elkhide sheath.Handle has a buffalo and osage cap. Which I think fancy's it up just a bit. (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v83/fishrofmen1/DSCN1546.jpg)<><

Stunning work! BTW :notworthy: :notworthy:
The-bow AND knife hack-Ferret
Doc ya know that little dagger is not your best work. I know you are a man of refind taste and could never settle for second best. So because you are so special to me and shell I am willing to take off your hands. :readit:  ;) <><
Mickey & Frank, Thanks for the comments...but if you want to see a special knife (not because of the maker but the Signatures!) take a look over on the TXS thread in a minute...Doc
Jeff, You always have a way of stunning us with those beautiful creations and that quill work....I'm always speachless when I see them.
Welcome back and happy that you are home safe and sound even if you need to use ice packs...you should be able to find plenty with the weather you're getting today...
Thank you for sharing those pic's! They are always a pleasure to our eyes!! :)
Shell, It is a shock! Sunny & 80 to a foot of new snow. Oh well at least the Tecate will be cold :)
Here is one I made a few years ago from a small file.

I wore it on a canoe trip to the Boundary waters. It was super handy but the carbon blade rusted pretty bad in just one week.
I still need to clean it up or make a new one.
carl
I've got to stop opening this thread. To many great knives.
You're right, Dave, but how do ya stop?
hey guys - what exacly do you mean by "D blade".
is it the leaf-shape?
never heard this term used before.
thanks for the kind works guys - it's a pleasure to own those 2 little knives.
brian
Plywood Bender-laptop, I use Mother's car wax. It helps protect the surface from moisture & removes oxidation. A little rust just adds character...Doc
Tippit- Thanx for the tip(pit)
I think part of the problem was that I took an unexpected swim. With the style of sheath I made I think it held a pool of water in it. Leather would have gotten wet and then dried quickly. But the Bocote sheath didn't dry until I took the knife out and turned it upside down.
Carl
Ply maybe you should drill a small hole in the bottom. Since ya like to wear your knife swimming . :knothead: :knothead: <>< :bigsmyl:
I just recently bought a crkt dogfish neck knife, it is a more modern knife with a kydex sheath, but I plan on making a leather sheath for it,it has a bottle opener built into the back of the handle I'll show some pics later
In the late 1970s, I believe 1978, a former prime minister of Italy, Aldo Moro, was kidnapped by a communist/nihilist group, the Red Brigades. He was found a couple of months later, strangled with the chain from the crucifix he wore.
I have a horror of anything around my neck that does not easily break away. Any grabbing of the cordage, accidental or no -- falling from a tree stand, or other -- and you're a statistic in Aldo Moro's category.
wow methinks you're a bit paranoid Naphtali.
I seriously doubt the leather thongs we use for the straps on these would hold our weight in a fall but even if a branch did manage to dig down in my clothes and catch the thong, strangling would be the least of my worries if I were to pitch out of a tree from any significant height.
Wow I am starting to use old bow strings as laynards for my neck knives. They will have a small cinch and antler or beaded tips. If anyone falls from a tree with one of them on I am sure the antler tips will snap off pronto and you will free fall to a broken leg or worse. Wear them inside the jacket or shirt and have no problems.<><
tippit,
Them sheaths are just "PDB"!!
