Title: Trad Gang Father and Son/Daughter Get-Together
Post by: knife river on March 14, 2007, 12:56:00 PM
Or mother and son, father and daughter, or any other combo that comes to mind.     :)

Guru (Curt) and I have been kicking some ideas around about getting our kids together.  It's one thing for our boys to go stumping with their dads, but I think if the kids got together for a fun weekend shoot the experience would be wonderful.  And it would give us dads and moms another good excuse to get together.

I was thinking about having a number of fun novelty shots, some aerial targets, and enjoyable games.  Maybe mix it up with a little fishing or canoeing, too.

This idea is in its infancy.  We don't have a place or a time.  Absolutely nothing is nailed down yet.  We just want to toss it out there and see if any other Trad Gangers would be interested.  All suggestions very welcome, especially if you know of a good site to host this gathering!

Thanks in advance!

Woody, I will ask the Powers That Be at NORVA about it. It is located at Fountainhead Park, which has rental boats and a boat launch. Belvoir might be a little tight security-wise, eh?

So, if it works out, will ya let me shoot?  :bigsmyl:

Sounds good so far, folks!  Yeah, Killy, Fort Belvoir could be a might touchy...  Is there camping available at Fountainhead Park?

Emma says you can shoot but only if you shoot with her.    :)    :wavey:

This is a great idea, and if possible I will be there with Hunter.  For me, it will depend on when and where this happens before I can commit. Great idea guys!

Let me know.My club in Schacticoke, N.Y. would most likely be available.100 or so acres, a large pond loaded with fat bass and sunny and a bit of camping area. Its about 1/2 hour north of Albany.

Maybe the Denton Hill shoot (ETAR) would be a good time and location?

Nope. There are no camping facilities available. Maybe somebody is a member of an Izaak Walton league with that type of setup.

Killey,
I'm a member of Issac Walton. We have a very nice archery range here in Lynchburg with camping facilities and a lake for fishing and swimming, etc..... If ya'll want to do it here, I can check to see if it would be possible. Just let me know.

So far, two possible locations -- Lynchburg, VA and a little north of Albany.  They both sound excellent.  Would you guys mind asking to see if they'd allow us to use their place?  Would there be a fee involved?  Sure hope not -- and  I'm sure we'd all be glad to sign legal waivers, but if we have to take out some kind of insurance policy that might be a show-stopper.  But let's cross that bridge when we come to it.

Thanks all, I'm very glad to see all the interest for an outing with the kids!

Wolfman, I'd love to see you there, but for me and Joe to be there it's going to have to happen before late June -- we're moving to California (sorry, Killy, the Air Force should have asked for your permission first!)

Who knows, maybe we can put one together on the west coast, too.  That'd cut about four hours off a 28 hour flight from New Zealand, wouldn't it?  Yowza!    :wavey:    :)

Hey guys,
What would you think about doing several of these get togethers in "strategic locations" across the US to accomodate a larger group of folks.  It would be cool to have a group a little closer to  home for each of us so that more could attend.

The VA locations would lend themselves to a trip to DC afterward for those that can take a couple extra days for the long trip associted with going there to shoot.  Tie in a little history lesson to make the freedoms we have more real and recogniize they are not free.  Just a thought.

Boy this sounds like a great idea! May be a little out of my way but when you all nail down a place and time I'll have to see if I can do it. I have two boys that would love to do something like this.

Opportunity and dates notwithstanding, my boy and I are for sure interested.

Perhaps somebody could contact the "powers that be" in Quantico. The Marines were/are always quick to help youngsters and good intentioned well do'ers. I attended many a Scout Jamboree at Fort A.P. Hill as well.

The proximity would lend itself as well to a history trip to D.C. although it may be shortlived with all the arrow slinging and hiking that would have to be done. It would require a few weeks of preparation for a few hours of enjoyment for the kids, so "volunteerism" would have to be at a peak.

And Killy--If you want to get Belvoir.....I was born there on that very base in 1966.....mention my name......I'm sure they'll remember me.  :biglaugh:
