Title: History of wood laminated bows for TBB?
Post by: wingnut on March 14, 2007, 08:17:00 AM
Well I went and stepped in it this time.  Jim Hamm asked if we could write a chapter for the upcoming TBB on all wood laminated.  Only problem is that we need to include a history section.

Anybody got ideas about where to find facts about where, when and what?

Thanks,

Mike

History Channel is putting it back pre-Eygyptian Pyramids or around that time. Some of the Pharos barrowed the techinology after capturing weapons from those they were at war with.

Sorry I can't be more helpful.

Saamis
Japanese - Kay Koppedryer (sp?) might be a resource.
English - Archery It's Theory and Practice (Horace Ford)

Mike,

Are you writing a how-to chapter on all wood laminated bows with a short history section? If so it might be best to conduct your research around the bows of the early 1900's. Finding information on the bows of that time shouldn't be a problem and it would be a good lead up to the glass days.

How far do you want to go back and do you want to stick to wood laminated, or include horn, etc? North America or world?

We are still up in the air a bit about where to draw the line between all wood laminate and composite.  I kinda like the early historian version.  Like materails or near like materials in a laminated bow.  Dissimilar materials make a composite bow.

The chapter will be a short history and a how too.
