Title: AIR POCKET IN BELLY OF LIMB
Post by: abchlo on March 13, 2007, 06:32:00 PM
I RECENTLY TOOK MY RECURVE LIMBS OUT OF THE OVEN AND THERE LOOKS LIKE THERE COULD BE SMALL AIR POCKETS IN THE LIMB, AT THE POINT WHERE THE STRING GROOVE WOULD END, BELLY SIDE. WOULD THIS
BE UNSAFE TO TRY AND STRING THESE LIMBS?

If they are less than ~1/8" diamater or so, you'll be fine.  The stresses out near the end of the limb are way less than near the handle.

I thought the standard answer was drill a little hole and squirt super gule in it.  :)

I have had two custom bows with the pockets you mention. In both cases, the bowyer said it wasn't a problem. BTW, before you ask, the bows were sold as seconds with the flaws accounted for.
