I have never bowfished before, but am very curious about it. I would like to know what you guys use for your bowfishing set-ups. Thanks for your help.
50# recurve, AMS reel, fiberglass arrow w/ safety slide, muzzy carp point.
My setup is the same as BMN's (except my old Grizzly is only 45#) (http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a365/yleecoyote23/bowfishing406008.jpg)
Mine is also the same, only a 53# recurve!!! 64" Widow, MA-II, to be exact!
Mine is a 50 lb. Quinn Stallion. AMS retriever, fiberglass arrows w/slides, stingray heads.

Same as CJ5s but with muzzys. :)
Martin Hatfield 65#, AMS retriever, arrow has ShurShot Penetrator head w/ slides. 17' Mad River canoe w/ platform/stabilizers and a MinnKota 36 lb trollong motor. Of course my bowfishing buddies Tim and son Schafer complete my gear.
Mine is a Ben Pearson 'MACH ONE' recurve AMO 52" and 50#@28" with an AMS Retriever reel, fiberglass arrows with safety slides and Muzzy carp heads and No-Glov's on the string.
55# recurve,Zebco 808,fiberglass arrows with sting-A-ree points,a canoe.And a good pair of amber polarized sunglasses.
Is there a good way to affix the reel to the bow if you don't have inserts to hold one? I've seen in 3 Rivers they have some kind of a strap arrangement but I don't know if there's another way to go as well.
Thanks,
Rusty <><
A couple of old Bear and Bodkin reels, Bear Grizzly and Black Panther Hunter, both 45#, some aqua shoes, polarized shades and a group of eager kids!

If your talking about a retriever rell, just screw it to the riser with a couple of screws. Of course I'm talking about a designated bow for bowfishing.
50 # Bear Grizzly, Saunders shoot through reel, Muzzy arrow.
low 40 pound Bear, AMS, muzzy carp points
40 pounds is all ya need...
Rusty, I have had a lot of fun with the old tape-on reels. They are basically just a spool that literally tapes to your riser. I use electrical tape to mount them. It works fine, but isn't as sexy as a retriever.
Ylee....
How did you get that bottle mounted on your grizzly? I've got that part from my old compound and want to mount it on my recurve.
Here is my rig. 45lb. bow. Not even sure what brand of bow it is. It was all painted up when I got it from my dad. I use an AMS Retriever reel attached to the bow with the gadget adapter (which is the bracket with the big rubber bands) that Rusty in Fla. was asking about. I think I got mine from Kustom King, but 3Rivers also has it. I use Muzzy carp point arrows with safety slides. Another month or two and it should be on up here in Michigan.

Sorry about the big pic. I must not have shrunk it down quite enough.

Unfortunately a previous owner of my Grizzly had screwed a detachable quiver mount on the side of the bow, and the AMS Retriever is designed with several slotted holes so I was able to use the holes that were there to mount it. Of course you wouldn't want to do that with a nice bow, but where I bowfish, I wouldn't want a really nice bow anyway....it wouldn't stay that way very long... :scared: :biglaugh:
yall are gonna kill me for this one...
I use my 58# bob lee classic take down!!!! I built a custom aluminum bolt on bracket to use my ams retriever. Its a fish killin machine. I wade fished with it all day friday. Then i just wiped off the dried slime and shot a 3d tournament on saturday. You cant tear up a bob lee take down...ive tried
Kyle
ok yall, don't laugh, I know it's overkill. I shoot a 86# @ 29.5" Jeffery royal with a retriever. It was my hunting bow until I got my Morrison, and I had to find a use for it before my wife said "why do you keep a bow you don't use?"

40# Damon Howatt Coronado...AMS string slide.. web page (http://groups.msn.com/_Secure/0VABCDo4Z2DM3djIhybwzLr3I!HsFAyBCTXlXOd!gllr*53QcpekfdsHY2EC1ro2d!ZkPW1eDTtn4*YnCWwiMEuuTwl9IfrMatTeWpqGqH7Iiixnv2uUVK8kCeOwZTmHV/Got%206%20today.JPG?dc=4675614117388939344)
58# Pronghorn 3-piece longbow fitted with an AMS retriever. I installed a couple of sight inserts into th side of the riser, specifically for the reel. They're barely noticeable :D
50# bear 76er and muzzy arrow.I have also upgraded to an AMS reel. (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v663/soldier321/Picture034.jpg)
I use an old 55lb Pearson Mustang with an old bear open face hand real. I use as long as fiberglass arrow as I can find with no vanes and Muzzy fish heads.
For those that do not want to drill holes in their bows, I really recommend the gadget adapter, or traditional mounting bracket. It is a steel bracket with tapped holes that attaches to the bow with heavy rubber bands. You just stretch and wrap the bands around the bow. The bands have holes in them that fit over a small peg on the bracket. I think the bracket is made by Great Northern because it works just like their quivers. Then the reel screws right to the steel bracket. That is how I attached the retriever to my bow in the bottom pic. The reel doesn't move a bit, even when fighting fish.
Here is a close-up of to the traditional mounting bracket from http://www.kustom-king.com/:

Thanks for all the help guys!!
Mine is a 45# K-mag, simple reel, fiberglass arrows, and AMS slides.....

Some big 'ol Hudson river carp.....
I use a Retreiver reel and Muzzy points and sunglasses--essential equipment.
Clint knows what he's talking about with the 'rays--even the smaller ones fight like the devil. If you chase those, definately use a rig with a float, else you are liable to loose your bow.

ClintV...that is a slick little setup you got there! NICE ray brother! :notworthy:
Done--sorry about that!
Chad
I lost my Costa Del Mars a month ago. I am still trying to get up the nerve to bite the bullet and buy a new pair. They are quality sunglasses.
