Title: More glass in the limb?
Post by: Doug R on March 10, 2007, 08:07:00 PM
Anyone ever use a piece of glass as a core instead of a parallel of wood when making a bow limb?

Black Widow has it in all it's recurves, it's called Core-Tuff. I am using it in a proto-type 3-piece longbow I am working on now with great results!

I am thinkig you would be adding weight to the limb you dont need. I feel you will be better off performance wise with a lighter core material.

In the first bows that i made i used a bi-directional glass strip as core. It made the libs somewhat heavier, but very stable.
The pictures show a R/D bow with Ipe backing and Osage belly and a laminated Osage riser. It has no glass on the belly and backing.
If you look at the riser you can see the strip, it's the thin dark line between the Ipe backing and Osage riser.
