What is your favorite Bear Memory/Bow?
I took my first recurve deer with a Bear TD that was loaned to me back in 1979.
Listening to "Fred Bear" by Ted Nugent the day before bow season.
Gives me chills everytime I hear it.
"Cleanse of the soul."
Happy birthday Fred! Fred Bear bow introduced me to my first law officer back in 1968. I was around 7 years old hunting Rabbits in an old city lot, kind of in my own season and some older folks thought i would poke my eye out. Second Bear memory is when i got to meet and talk with him in 1980..
Great memory Vic. My first bow was a Bear Red Bear. Anything was in season at anytime back then(at least to my 4 year-old mind LOL)
Got my first "traditional" bow kill with a Bear bow in 1974.
Every year my wife and I would go up north on vacation and one of our family traditions was to stop at Bear archery in Grayling go through the museum and watch one of his movies for $.50. Then one year when we stoped we went up to watch a video there was only a couple people there and one of them was Fred. He came over and sat next to us and talked to my boy (at that time Shane was only 4 years old) during the entire show. The movie was the one he shot the big ole black water buffalo. He was so happy to see people enjoying his hunts. It was a special time!
I wish i would have met them man. Instead I read as much about him as possible. Definately a man we should all look up to for his dedication to bettering our experiences in the outdoors. Thanks and happy birthday.
The fond memory back when I was 11 and my uncle flung an arrow using an old Bear recurve. The arrow hit a railaroad track, the sparks flew, and the deer ran safely away.
Today is my daughter's 2nd birthday. What a great person to share a birthday with. I hope to take a deer this year with a Kodiak Magnum I purchased. It was made the year I was born - 1966. Hopefully she will do the same some day!
I sat and talked with Mr.Bear 9 months before he passed away. What a great Gentelman he was.

Happy Birthday Fred!! My first traditional harvest. I shot this deer 5 years ago on state land,off the ground,next to a corn field. I remember the feeling rushing through me and thinking,"Oh my God,I did it!" I have been hooked ever since. I used a Bear Black Panther Hunter with cedar arrows and Magnus 125 heads.

I recieved a very special gift: An Elder at my church used to be Fred Bears accountant (for 9 years), he is always telling me about the museum he has in his ATTIC! After showing me an A Handle recurve, complete with 2 sets of limbs, signed by Fred himself, then showing me many pictures of them on hunts together, he invited me out to a shed in his back yard. He came across an old 25lb longbow that Fred had given him and asked if my kids would shoot it!!!"Well yea! I said, and he gave it to me. The big suprise to me was a box of arrows made for his Take down recurve that he had shown me earlier. He gave them to me and when I opened the box I found 12 wooden arrows, painted green and white, 6 with field points and 6 with razor sharp broadheads. These arrows are the best matched set I have ever seen, all 52lb spine and within 10 grains of weight!WOW!!!From Fred himself!
Never met Fred myself, but Thank you Fred for all you did for us. Happy Birthday
My first trad bow was a newer model Grizzly; my first broadheads were the stainless Razorheads. And everytime hunting season rolls around, I can be found on route to wherever I'm hunting with my head sticking out of the window of my dad's pickup, singing Ted Nugent's "Fred Bear" at the top of my lungs... ;)
Happy birthday, Fred. We never met, for as you were leaving this world, I was entering it. But, someday, we will meet, and what a time that will be...
I met Fred 3 times over the years. He was always the same..the perfect gentleman, and as easy a going guy as one could ever hope to meet. Even though he was a living icon, he never acted like it, but rather acted just like one of the guys.We lost a good one when Fred died.
Fred Bear was a doer and a hunter. :(
