Just got home from college and i went down to get my gear together and fling a few arrows to just relax (i havnt shot at all this semester... something about graduating BLA BLA BLA) and when i grabbed my glove... which had fallen onto the floor... this is what i saw
(http://i83.photobucket.com/albums/j318/ironrhino800/CIMG0116.jpg)
needless to say, I was immidately pissed because its my ONLY shooting glove and i dont have enough time to order a new one from 3rivers and there arn't any decent archery shops in new jersey (near where i live) GUH....
The death warrent is out so I'll post a hero pic when i get my sweet revenge!
If you have a Rural King store you can find a nice pair of leather gloves there that will do untill you get one ordered.Trap the mouse.Resize your pic before they delete it.
Yeap, a pair of Dickys goat skin work gloves is what I use now, they work just fine
I have an extra Men's large Damascus leather glove I will send to you, if you can use it. It is in new condition. Send me a email at;

Is your basement high enough to put a tree stand, or will you be ground hunting?? :bigsmyl:
AAAAAAAAAAAAAHAHHAHAHHAHHH!!!!!!
Mousehunt was on TV last night. I wouldn't use it as a guide to strategies though. I would say hunting over bait is probably a good choice this time.
NORTH SHORE'S TRANTULAS SHOULD BE DEVISTATING ON MOUSE SIZE GAME,AND FAIRLY SAFE TO SHOOT INDOORS.
Oops sorry for yellin(caps)
Good thing you did'nt have it on at the time!LOL
JUST DON'T CORNER THE BUGGERS, THEY MIGHT CHARGE!
hahahah!!
I would hunt him down and pin him to the floor, but like they said above, they are dangerous when cornered.
When you get him skin him out and tan the hide. It'll make a great tab......
Forester to replace the one he ate???
Thats the BEST... :notworthy:
I hear they taste like chicken. :D
...good idea!
By the way, should'nt this topic be posted under the "Dangerous Game" forum instead of "Pow Wow"? :bigsmyl:
Hey a little of the cloth hockey stick tape will work just as good as a glove. I have used this trick a couple of times when, I have either forgotten my glove or it's gotten way too wet to shoot with.....
It will work for you until tour new glove arrives, and it's only going to cost you about a buck.
I would be happy to send you some Yellowstone deersvin gloves if you like----and the Golden Eagle gloves work pretty well, too.
Dang mice, I had a battle with them this year, too.
Jeff
hey buddy what size was your glove.because i would make sure that mouse payed for it big time!! lol!! :biglaugh:
FIRST... the generosity of trad gang CONTINUALLY amazes me!!!!!!! Thanks for all the offers I'm going to try the tape routine. if that does not work I'll be sending some emails.
OK... a little update on the mouse hunting... The wind was all wrong for my stand and it was blowing way to hard to be up that high anyway!
I spent all evning hunkered down in my ASAT "guy tinkering in the basement" pattern BUT i forgot to use the "gtib" cover scent that came with it... so i think the little bugger had me pegged all along!
I have only been able to track down one of our mouse traps (i'll fix that tomorrow!) so.. thats set with a little steak & peanutbutter cocktail...
I'll continue to keep you all posted...
Boys... I'm going to tan his hide and then use it to patch my glove back up... that thing has a lot of miles left in it!!!!!
Terminate with extreme prejudice
I believe it's legal and ethical to hunt mice over bait. I suggest setting up your double bull about 5 yards away from a nice pile of extra chezzy cheetos. If you use a mouse decoy make sure you have her head facing towards the double bull as not to alert the glove chewing crtiiter coming into the bait! :D
These critters are normally not loners, so you probably have a pack roaming the area.
Traditional Bowhunter Magazine had an article a few months ago on a technique one hunter was using. I think it had to do with anti-freeze. :scared:
As I have said before, I had a battle with a wild pack of these critters.
http://www.critter-repellent.com/mice/mouse-repellent.php
This stuff is what I ended up using-----worked like a charm.
Jeff
Jeff did you put this around your house? How long did it last and how much did you have to use?
Iron,,, great follow up on the hunt, man can you guys write or what???
but I think you will need to guarantee all us here at tradgang that since the glove has been repaired that you have attached a mouse trap to the end of your arrow making this hunt traditional to allow this posting to continue, BIG brother is watching you know. :biglaugh:
P.S
Please send pictures of your hunt.. ad head mount.
You might need a backup gun.... just in case. :bigsmyl:
If you want to get rid of them make an antifreeze mouse trap. Take a five gallon bucket and fill it part way with antifreeze/water. Take a wire and skewer it through an empty soda can lengthwise. Make sure it spins freely. Slobber some peanut butter on the can and place the wired can across the top of the bucket far enough away that the mouse will have to jump to get to it. Put a board there to the top of the bucket to act as a ramp and there you have it. The mouse will go up the ramp and jump to the prize but will roll off the can into the antifreeze. End of story. Take care, Matt
It worked great! I had the damn mice getting in my truck even. I spread this stuff around and within a week-----zero mice. It took a week or so to really get going, but once it did it was effective. It has lasted for three months so far during pretty heavy rain and snow, so I expect it would work really well in the dry climates.
Jeff
Oh, it took two of the little bottles, and followed the destructions to the letter.
Jeff
You need to get yourself a terrier...that clean up any mouse problem.
Guys, always check the hunting regulations in your state. Some states don't allow hunting over bait. Just my 2 cents here.
"Don't it always seem to go
That you don't know what you've got 'til it's gone"
That Shake-Away is intrigueing, and way safer for the dog than a bucket of antifreeze. The mice at camp have a thing for fur string silencers. Plus, they took the insulation from the underside of the truck hood and used it and some cigarette butts and leaves to build a nest behind the carburater. I took the truck to Meinecke for routine maintenance, and the ashen-faced mechanic gasped about an "animal" in the truck. I had left my husband at home, so I figured it was the mouse. An emaciated deer mouse was still stowing away in that poor truck. I had to use chopsticks to get the nest out of the tight space, (it is a Japanese truck) and the mouse was seen no more. It chewed enough insulation off of the wiring that I have been trying to come up with a repellent for years. Mothballs don't do it. They are difficult to harvest, too.
Killdeer
Killdeer------try it----it works, and it don't freak your pets out very much.
Jeff
AWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW yeaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!
Well the offending rodent or one of his friends has gnawed his last damascus glove!!!!!!!
and now the story.....
The wind was perfect for the evning hunt and I had already donned my ASAT G.T.I.B. (guy tinkering in the basement) Camo and since i had a little extra time i figured I'd walk my trap line on the way...
From a few yards away i could see fur and i couldnt get through the brush or around the welder fast enough!!!!
Just as i reached for the dead mouse it came to my attention that he was VERY MUCH ALIVE and some what disenchanted with being stuck in a trap!
never loosing my cool i backed up at a moderate pace and gracefully crapped my pants.
after re-assesing the situation and calculating his chances of survival he had about .177% of getting away... i'll let you guess what happened.
once i clean the blood off my trap it will be re-set and ready to go!
as a side note...
the bow in the picture is my 54# elk creek BBO long bow, which i picked up from dalebow this summer... i was worried about penitration but in the end i tucked it right behind the sholder and snuck it between the ribs so i guess its better to be lucky than good!
Way to go Killer!!!
Jeff
Awesome thread LOL
QuoteIs your basement high enough to put a tree stand, or will you be ground hunting??
:clapper:
Bpaul... NO KIDDING!!!! where else but trad gang???? these guys are GREAT!
Hey, ya got to keep it in the right subject matter. He even got his bow spec's into the trophy shot. Perfect posting form LOL.
Man where did you get that camo your wearing :D
Anoited I had the very same thought when lQQking at the picture..
LQQk at the size of that tail....WOOOOOW..
Dang, it's no wonder you got mice. Your basement is a disaster. :scared:
Did ya put him on the weight scales yet, maybe we should have a contest. NO RATS great shooting and I have trouble with squirels hitting that is!
Brent
LOL.... actually we just built a rolling assemby/work station so all the crap from the shop is pushed to the back half... (EXCUSE)
yeah... its just our work shop the rest of the basement is finished and carpeted with a drop ceiling...etc.
ironrhino... just read this thread through this morning... many thanks for a fun time. In a fit of midnight madness last night I tried to do a little preaching on one of the "equipment defines tradition" threads... ouch. Thanks for the antidote. You guys have the right attitude and are having the fun... and thus may it always be.
As an aside, you mentioned your rolling work station. I spent this winter putting my entire shop on wheels... every tool and bench is now mobile and it's easy to keep things neat. Lordy, I wish I'd done it years ago.
Dick in Seattle
Maybe we should start a new thread ( Scary Basement Work Shops) because if I showed you pictures of my worshop in the basement you guys would freak :bigsmyl:
LETS DO IT!!!!! I'll go right down and take some pictures...
I put up a thread "Scary Basement Shops... and the Cure". go for it!
Dick
no wonder you crapped your pants. lol
