How long can you leave your recurve strung? I have no Idea, I have had it stung for months at time but now that I have decided to shoot Trad only I am kinda wanting to take better care of my gear. Thanks for the help!
Best to ask the bowyer if possible. I have heard some people leave it strung all the time and some unstring it after shooting. I don't think it will hurt a modern recurve to leave it strung. The main thing is don't leave it strung in a hot car or hot sunlight. Don't store a strung bow where it can get hot or damp like above a heat source or in a damp shed. Don't leave it standing in a corner very long. Oh, and one more I forgot, don't leave it strung if you are around someone who might dry fire it.
Thanks
Bows that get shot regularly only get unstrung for maintenance purposes.
Mine pretty much stays strung unless I'm traveling somewhere with it. The poundage and tiller haven't changed one bit
You are more likely to damage the bow while stringing/unstringing then by leaving it strung. Good advice above, store it properly and away from temptation to others, also just keep an eye on string wear.
So how much do you guys worry about transporting your bows in the summer... (i.e. in the back of your pickup under the topper) I sort of live out of my vehicle in the summer months. Is it ok to leave an UNSTRUNG bow in a hot place?
You can leave an unstrung bow in your car. Be sure it's laying flat. DO NOT string/shoot it while it is hot from the car. Take it out, put it in the shade and cool it off first. It also seems better to have the bow in a bow sock or some such covering when in a hot car. I don't know why, maybe because the sock and not the bow absorbs some of the radiant heat? Basically, just don't try to bend it when it's hot and don't store it such a way gravity tries to bend it while it's hot.
