Title: SEMO HOG HUNT-ROLL CALL
Post by: twig on March 04, 2007, 07:16:00 PM
I hope everyone got home safely and without problems. I guess the thing that I enjoyed the most about the event was the comming together of the trad gang members that I had read and finally got to meet. We gotta have more events to get us together. You call I will haul. I TALKED TO Citori just before I left and he was feeling much better.NOW...for the purpose of this thread-- Please add your name to the roll call so we all can have a record of who was there. I being the oldest, have a problem remembering everyone, and this will help a lot. Also we will know if everyone got home safely. Thanks to all of you. I am very proud to meet you. Twig.

I just wanted to add that I really appreciate ,as many of you have said, the complete and total effort, that Citori made to accomodate all of us. I, being from the area, know how much work he did(mostly by himself). The locating, Corn runs, food, info ect. YOU DA MAN.Thanks.   Twig

Glad to have been a part of it.  I had a great time!  The new friends I met, the beautiful country we hunted, the wonderful food and the time spent with a great bunch of folks, made for a very memorable trip.  I can't thank everyone enough for their time and effort to make this thing come together.  Hope to share a campfire with you all in the future!

Deerhntr, Mitch Wikerson is home safe and sound. Ryan has made it home also and Steve Voodoofire is heading to a friends house in KY.

I had a great time and enjoyed meeting every one of you all and as Twig said this is something we need to do more often. The hunting and food was the best even if those darn Hogs are smarter than we are. Also want to thank Bill Everett, Mobiltoy  for his help with showing us around the country down there. I'm looking forward to hunting with many of you again.

Home from the 1st annual(hope, hope)SEMO hog hunt and want to report that it was a wonderful time. Meet so many people that I will never remember their names. People gathered and shared from their hearts there knowledge and spirit for adventure. We talked bows, shooting, hunting, life and adventures. I want to thank Citori "Nathan" for all the hard work that he put into the event and believe me it was a event to be proud of. The food was fabulous and the hunts well thought out and prepared for. Old man weather did not corporate as will as we all had hoped, but that's life in the woods. I now have several new friends that I feel I know must better then I did a week ago. Thanks Chris for the string-making lesson I can't wait to put it to use. Shot at my first aerial targets notice I said "at". Everyone was so kind and I think we all had a great time. I really hope this is only the first of many SEMO hog hunts. Maybe next time the hogs will come also. I know pictures are to come later as my son "tmccall" took a lot of them. So please stay tune for more to come. Thanks again to all who had anything to do with the success of this venture.

Well,

I dont know where to start.....I had a great time, and I hope that everyone else did also.

I got to meet, hunt, and shoot with some of the best men I have ever had the pleasure to meet!!!  I just wish I would not have been sick Saturday night....and missed the fellowship and food.  I hope to do it again.....I know that I would love to give it another shot again next year if everyone else is willing!

As far as hogs.....LOL....we get an A+++++ for effort!

I cant tell you all how much this weekend meant to me....it was what memories are made of!!!

I just wanted to tell you that it took each and everyone of you to make the weekend what it was....not just me!!!!  All I did was start a small ball rolling and it took off from there.

thanks
citori

Well, we (Skeaterbait, Will and Jerry) made it home safe and sound, although a little slap happy from the day. It seems that Nathan weren't the only one to catch a bug this weekend, Will missed this mornings hunt and was still hurtin on the drive home.

Had a fantastic time this weekend. However, I am sorry to say that I can only put a couple of faces to names (not that I will forget anyone)but it seems that my brain loses the name before my hand is done shaking the other. You are all a stellar bunch and I look forward to seeing you all again.

I will be at MOJAM this year if any of you all will be making that run it would be great to say hello again. If any of you have never made it, I highly recommend it.

Just checking in...  we got home safe and sound.  Just so you can possibly attach a face to my Trag Gang Handle I was the big ugly guy driving the white Dodge with the camo stripes on the rear of the bed, (the preacher!)

The first annual SEMO Hog Hunt was a grand success.  I had a great time, met lots of great folks and really enjoyed myself.  (By the way Twig, I'm still looking for that Damascus glove and a spool of serving material!)

I did take a few pictures and I will be posting them later on...  Right now I'm going to put in some quality family time.

BTW  I want to extend a special thanks to Citori for all he did!  I also want to thank Lefty for the string making lessons.

God Bless You All!

Nathan, I didn't to get to tell you thanks for all the work you did putting this all together. My brother Dax and I were on our way into the dinner hall, when I got a call that my mother-inlaw had a heart attack and was rushed to the hospital. So we had to go pack up camp and head back to St.Louis. Didn't get to say bye to anyone or join in on the feast. Maybe next time. The good news is my mother-inlaw is doing fine and hopes to get released from the hospital tonight. Had a great time and hope to do it again sometime.
Happy Hunting, Jodi Morgan

Made it home in fair shape, I was under the weather to start with this weekend and with all the fun I had the antibiotics couldn't keep up.  Next year I will have more energy to get more folks out for drives and such.  All I can say is this was a first for me and I couldn't have asked for a better time.  I am glad you all had a good time as well, what a great group of folks and talented too.  I now have a couple of scary sharp knives ( thanks Phil) as well as a respect for skeet shootin with bows (thanks voodoofire).  Good people, good food, beautiful bows, great weather and not being at work what more could you ask for.  Nathan just holler when you want to start again, you know I'm ready.  Thanks also to all the folks that brought and cooked food. Man I'm fat.

When I got to Millers at about noon Friday there were several guys already there but as the afternoon passed more and more began to gather around twig's traditional shop (of sorts.)

And Twig insisted right then that no one would be able to leave and say they didn't see a pig!

My camera never made it to the woods... I wish I had brought it with me on Saturday morning when we got a pretty good amount of snow while we were hunting.  I shot this pic back at the hotel during lunch when the snow had let up a little:

That will just about do it for me...  I took 74 pics but these are the best of the bunch.  I'm sure there are others that have great pics too, I'm looking forward to seeing them.

I just want to say once more that I had a great time.  The food was excellent, the fellowship was even better, and the experience shared was well worth my time.  Each and every one of you deserves a pat on the back for helping make this an excellent time for all that were involved.  I look forward to doing it again -- although next year I think we should add a some dead pigs to the mix!  LOL

Citori, Lefty, Nighthawk, Deerhunter, Mobiltoy, Keepemsharp, KSBowman, Twig and many others... I count it an honor to be able to number you among my friends and I hope to share a camp with you again in the future!

God Bless!!

Thanks for all the great pictures.  As you can tell I am the big guy with the goatee(sp) and glasses with the coon skin quiver(thanks voodoofire!)sootin the widow long bow.  I know that I had the time of my life even if no hogs were shot....that would have just been the icing on the cake.  It was the guys that made the whole event!!!

The Corp of Engineers man that came and spoke was Dick Chinowith....he was "only there in an unofficial compacity"...LOL

I would like to thank all those who helped make the event a success.  Ozarkrambler(who was unable to attend), Twig, and Mobiltoy.  These guys helped me bait before the hunt. BobinTN for the great maps, and everyone else for just being there and bringing along a LOT of great food. I would like to also thank Phil(who can sharpen a knife better than anybody I know) who is my best friend and hunting buddy even if he is not a trad bow  shooter. LOL  He is a great buddy and also a wonderfull cook!

thanks

AND speaking of the lost boys club here are two , Ryan and a local Mark shortly after their "rescue", maybe Ryan will post the lost in the woods in the dark without a flashlight pic!

Hey Steve, thanks for posting my "Trophy" LOL I couldn't tell ya what it scored but it had points and stickers all over it and was about 25 feet tall. I'm sorry to say that its not the biggest "Trophy" I've ever shot though.

Thanks for bringing the thrower that was a blast. I had a great time and thanks to everyone for making it so much fun!!

Joe rest up and don't try to shoot any bows till the Doc gives ya the thumbs up. You'll be back in shooting shape in no time.

Later all
Deerhntr....Mitch

Hey guys what do you think of the touch I added to the Boo bow I traded for?

I reworked the grip to fit me a little better then wrapped the upper fadeout out with sinue for strength then thought I would ad the touch I was talking about. It's now the Semo Hog Hunt bow.

I've forgotten the fellas handle or name I got this from so if anyone knows please let me know.

nice work Mitch that is one sweet looking bow can you put skineeze on bamboo? How does she shoot? I tried shooting a 35 pound bow today I used a piece of nylon on the bow string and drew it using my teeth.

Thanks Bill, Pete rings a bell. I think he was from the Peorea area. Thanks Steve, Joe the handle work wasn't all that much just a little sanding to fit me better. I was mainly showing the Semo hog hunt written on it.

Joe, I've already camo'd the back of the bow. I tried to stain it after I reworked the handle but couldn't get the stain to take so I painted it camo. What works on Boo for staining? The bow shoots pretty good although it starts to stack at about 26". No big deal though. Seems to like about any arrow I shoot also. Later.

I have a pic of it but it came out blurry. I'll take another one and post it tomorrow. The camo looks pretty good. It turned out better than I had hoped.

Here's a pic of the camo Seth. Krylon flat green, olive, and tan. Basecoat green then touch it up here and there with an Oak leaf for a pattern. After that 3 coats of satin Minwax spar urathane. I don't know how it will hold up but it looks good. Shot it today with no ill effects.

Tony, If we do the hunt next year I'll have people sign it.
