well booked my honeymoon TN hog hunt this passed week. ended up booking with wilderness hunting lodge they more willing to let me hunt on my own than other lodges in the area. Anybody got any advice on hunt'in these beasties? I'm planning on useing my #72 recurve 2419's and either zwickey 4 blades or 160gr snuffer kinda a coin flip between the b-heads. Any basic hoggin knowledge I need to be aware of do's don'ts things of that nature.
Yep! Whatch out fur dat front end. They got teef. Sure wish I could go on one of these fun hunts that everybody else seems to be going on.
Use a 2-blader.
Forget the snuffers on BIG hogs, like cold says, go with the 2 blade.

With 72lbs you should be able to shoot a shovel on the front of your arrow if you want to. :)Just get a broadhead in behind the shoulder in the lower 3rd of the body and you will have no problems. They are just like deer.Only shorter and rounder. :goldtooth:
There are several posts on the dangerous game section. Even though I don't consider feral hogs to be dangerous game. James is right low and tight behind the front shoulder.Don't shoot them like a deer the lungs and heart are farther front than you'd think. About 4-6 inches about the belly line and shaving the leg will get you a dead hog in short order. I shot 63# and 67# and have not had a problem with pass throughs, your bow should do the trick.
With a 72# bow I'd go with the big multi-blade heads for sure. Big heads make big holes which result in LOT'S of blood.
Have shot many, many hogs - shot em with wensels, magnus and howard hill heads and lots of others. The best penetration I got was from all my 2 blade heads. The wensel, snuffers and muzzy's stopped em but, they didn't pass through. I like the howard hill and the magnus best out of all my heads for hogs. I hunt em about 20-25 times a year now. Live in Texas so I get to hunt em almost every weekend I am free.
Godd luck.
3 blades for hogs. Don't forget, you get in there 10" or so, you're good to go. If they don't bleed out quick, you'll likely not find 'em.
