Title: Snowshoes and a 3 pc Longbow
Post by: Anvil on March 03, 2007, 10:06:00 AM
We got a bit of snow the past few days and I thought I would share some pics.

One of my ground blinds. The deer were milling around it when I walked back there.

Hands are getting cold, heading in.

God Bless!  Curt

Lots of fun that snowshoeing. Those are cool looking bindings on those shoes.

Curt,
Can I ask where you got those snowshoes. This is something that I played around with here in central pa this winter. We don't get huge snows but it was fun. I used a pair I had some 20 years old but they are the pvc style, small but effective but would like to have wood ones. Can you steer me in the right direction. I can cross country sky because I got busted up from a treestand fall but snow shoes and hiking don't bother me at all. Any help from you or Ron would be appreciated. thanks tom massaro

Tukudu, I got those shoes from a local store but they have the same ones on Cabelas. They are the bearpaw style, Ron's are Ojibwa style. The bearpaws are great for in the woods because you can manuever around real easy in them. The Ojibwa are my favorites for covering alot of ground and are almost as manueverable as the bearpaws. The bindings are the step through rubber type. I highly recommend them, quick to get in and out of and very secure.
Hope this helps.

Alan, The bow is a Hummingbird Kingfisher, Kingwood riser, red elm on the back and cocobola on the belly. 62" 52# @28". It is a very sweet shooting bow, fast and stable.

Tom, traditional wood snowshoes are getting hard to find. Mine were made by Iverson in Michigans U.P. but they just recently went out of business.

Here's some excellent wood shoeshoes from Northwoods also made in Michigan. I think they are going to have the Ojibwa style like mine available soon.  http://www.northwoodsoutfitters.com/Pages/AdvStore/Snowshoes.htm

Ron

I am really sorry to hear Iversons went out of business.  I got mine at the factory in Shinglton, the owners were very helpful and helped me pick out the best for my use, (modified bearpaws - I'm not that big so don't need the big ones).  Of coarse this was about 25 years ago.

The snowshoes still work great and look nearly new in condition.  I wore out the first pair of bindings and my second set is looking pretty ragged, so thay have had a lot of use.  I went about 2.5 miles on them yesterday - we still have about 18 inches on the ground along the lakeshore (West Michigan).  They were made to last a lifetime.

Iversons had been in business for many many years. I haven't heard why they went out.

If you need any more bindings for your shoes Randy at Northwoods carries several types.

Snow what's that, I haven't seen it in many many moons...The Canadian geese have made permanent homes here.  I heard that all you guys up north and out west have been hoarding it.
Send some our way before spring gets here ok?    :bigsmyl:

I new I should have not bought that new snow blower a few years agao...

WOW, they're done already. These are great looking shoes, tight weave and very well made. Size 12X58", frames are made of hack berry, a very strong light weight wood, very simular to ash. Check with Nortwoods Outfitters for price.

Snowshoes are almost a nessesity up here, we have 4' of snow in the woods and the only way to get around proper is with snowshoes. The deer are really starting to be hurtin, spring better come quickly!!

I agree on the better performance with wood and rawhide, I float on top while the new models are in my tracks sinkin. lol

Oh, new bow too!  :)    (http://i119.photobucket.com/albums/o137/tpoof_01/DSCF3570Small.jpg)
