Buddy gave me a skinny carbon "Blue Jacket #230" bare shaft that flies pretty good out of my hybrid longbow. Anyone know the manufacture?
Thanks ahead of time.
Beeman, about 12 years ago I bought 150 dz. Got them for $1.10 each with nock and outsert. I love them, they penetrate like nothing I have ever shot.
I shoot 30" with a grizzly 160 + alum. insert, over 500gn.
supper strong, thick walls, great arrow
yep...I could kick myself for not getting more of those bad boys..they were the first old style carbons I shot and I went back to get more and 'voila, they don't make them any more'.
As always, whenever I find somehting I really like, I buy all I can of them RIGHT THEN nowadays, so I don't have to hear those words any longer- "Oh, they don't make THEM anymore!"
RAY, I could of bought 5,000dz, but got scared, I though I might not be able to unload them, WRONG! would of had my garage stacked with them for years.
I hear ya, King. Great shafts..really tough. Beman just quit making the Classics, too, I understand.
I think $2000.00 worth of arrow should be a pretty good sized pile. How big is you quiver???
Beemans with outcerts are good stuff no doubt.
Thanks guys for the help.
Was told over on the LW, check out Cabelas SSTs.
They also use the "230" spec, (according to their chart), which would be right for my bow they fly well bareshafted.
I shoot the 230 SST's and I have seen the Blue Jackets. I believe these and the AFC 2300's all came from the same manufacturer, but I don't know who that is. Beman probably as mentioned above.
My 53# recurve loves the 230 SST's with a 100gr insert and 145 grain Snuffer. Arrows weigh 610 grains and penetrate like mad on game.

oh oh, you did it now...If they ARE the same, I'm gonna get some. Can anyone verify cause that would be great.
They gotta be the same, Ray...small price to pay to find out, though...they are like $45 for shafts...
I ordered some of these off of **** but they did not come with outserts. I've checked with cabelas and saunders, both have discontinued sale of outserts. Does anyone know of a source for these in the 230 size? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Tony
Tony - Any luck with the outserts?
It seems Cabela's was clearing-out something like that. See if item OG-412994 at www.cabelas.com (http://www.cabelas.com) is what you're after...
Hey guys,
I made my own outserts once for some afc 2200's.
I used a small diameter aluminum arrow and bought a dozen inserts. If memory serves me right, I cut the aluminum arrow into 2.25 inch sections and epoxied them over the arrows after glueing my inserts into the sections. The homemade outserts outlasted the arrows, and actually, were a lot smoother transition than the regular outserts.
I can't remember what size arrow I cut up.
Take one of the 230's to a archery shop and find an aluminum arrow that is a snug fit over the carbon. It would be better than getting stuck with a dozen shafts you can't use.
Hope that'll help,
hnh
any confirmation about beman discontinuing the classic? first I heard of it, hope its not true...Mike
highnoonhunter - Good idea
That is a good idea, I looked into it once myself but didn't follow it through. I think it looked like a 1713 or 1716 might work to make a 230 outsert but I never tried it.
