Posted a week ago about running a 125 gr Snuffer into the base of my thumb while sliding it onto a steel insert, hand slipped and it went into my thumb about a inch.. It cut a bunch of muscle and nerves barely missing the main artery and nerve that feeds the hand..My thumb is now totally w/o feeling on over 1/2 the pad and Doc says may or maynot be permanent...done it a thousand times but it just took a split second to really mess my hand up, broadhead didnt move a inch and probably wasnt 15# pressure to do that much damage so guys just be careful...

I hope it heals up ok for you. Best of luck.
i often fear that when im gluing adapters in! im goin to be even more careful now.
hope you recover well and get feeling back buddy!
Dang boy! That be a tough lesson for sure. I hope you have a full recovery.
Put them heads in a leather padded vise. It's what I do anyway.... Hope you heal up 100%.
Froggy
Ouch! I hope you heal up completely. I can relate all too well. I had a run in with a tablesaw about two years ago (four sideing raw oak is dicey regardless of how long you've run those tools and what safety equipment you have in place.)and by the grace of God didn't lose my thumb. I don't have feeling on the inside 1/2 of my thumb. But, praise God I still have it!
Good luck with that hand...
I think I'll be a bit more careful too...
Thanks guys and you know what really sucks is I didnt even need to be messing with it all my bows are already set up ready to hunt was just bored and decided to stick one on and try to shoot it...I always preach to my buddies to be careful when messing with this stuff, think Im going to rig me up a vise or something like Froggy said, theyve got me about 1/2 scared of them now.. :knothead:
Thats nasty.good luck with your healing Dean.I am sure it wont keep out of those Hoosier woods with all those nice bucks you got running around.Keep it clean.Dont need an infection to start up.
shoot straight
Hope your hand heals well. I try to never sharpen until after I'm done tinkering with the heads.
Dean, it will never heal, it is only going to get worse so I think I should get first dibs on your bows since I do live the closest! Just joking, well kind of,ha,ha,ha.
I sharped a dozen last week and had cuts all over. Don't know why other heads don't chew me up...guess those snuffers are just blood thirsty broadheads. :knothead:
They cut up fox pretty good too. ;)

nice fox
OUCH!!!
Hope all turns out well in the healing process.
Dang Dean, Hope it heals alright for you. I had a run in with a knife blade a few months ago and the knife blade came out the winner. My fingers have healed real nice but my fingertips still have a numb feeling in them. Accidents like that really wake you up as to how dangerous this stuff can be when you get careless. Good luck with the healing process. Mike
OUCH!
Sorry to here that happend to you, hope you heal up and everything is ok. Thank's for posting it, it may save one of us from doing the same, I know ill be more carefull.
Yikes! Hope that heals up quickly and completely for you.
Look at it this way, Dean...you can now pound nails with a 16 oz hammer with impunity!!!!!!!!
Just kiddin, bud. I hope it heals fully and quickly. Thank goodness you are right handed, I HOPE!!!!!
Sorry to hear about your hand, ouch! Can't wait to see what my 160 Snuffers do this year. I'll be extra careful now!
Ray..LOL. Yeah Im right handed but do most everything left handed, kick a football left footed etc.. think Im a little amidextrous...so its a bigger pain then it would of been.Pain is starting to go away now, its just deep in the wound now and around it, swelling has went down a ton...
Sorry hope you heal quick.
Man I hope this heals up ok, but PLEASE don't post that pic again-sends shivers right up my spine!!
That pic scares me as well... Man, I hope the feeling comes back 100%.
I always hold my Zwickey's with a pair of pliers when hot melting/mounting to shafts, ect.. All that damage in a split second, scary...

Hey Dean sorry to see this happen. I hope you get the feeling back.
Take care

First question, is Occupational Therapy part of your recovery protocol? Did they suture muscle, tendon, or both back together? Are you currently splinted?
Regarding the sensation. Peripheral nerves (the one's outside the spinal cord) can regenerate. The problem is, they only move about 1mm a day. Dependening on if the nerve was traumatized vs. lacerated; and your age; will also dictate healing ability. I'd say your chances of sensation returning are better than not.
It also sounds like it was the precutaneous branch of the median nerve that was injured, not the radial? If this is the case, you are much better off given the radial nerve supplies most of the motor innervation to the thumb. A functional thumb is part of what classifies us as human.
Best of luck with your recovery.
