Got a new batch of Blackhawk vapor 3000's.Switching from alum. to carbon.I'm shooting 55lb@28in,FF string,Split finger out of a new model super kodiak.Drawing tad over 28in.I've been cutting the shafts down 1/4" at a time while tuning and they are down to 29 1/4" with 250gr up front.Got my nock set at 9/16".I got 'em flyen just right and on target, the problem is they make a loud CLACK when I shoot. They've done it on every shot I took while tuning.Long shaft, short shaft, light point, heavy point, and different nock points, it always Clacks. It's driving me up a wall!It sounds like the shaft bouncing off the riser somewhere.I've got it tuned and shooting laser beams.Am I missing something?I've tried all I knowto do. :banghead:
Try adjusting your brace height...Or nock location higher.
... mike ...
I had the same problem.Went up and down with brace, nock point, changed rest, built out the wall.Changed everything in or on the arrow.Even changed the string.Used dust on riser to see if the shaft was hitting and nothing worked.Went back to alum and no prob.Thing is I shoot those 3000s out of my longbow with no problems.
Good luck with it.
Scott.
I did have a simmilar sound from my bow last year. It drove me nuts for a long time trying the prosess of elimination. When I finally replaced my knocks the noise went away with the first shot. That's the only thing I can think of to try helping you with that noise. Good luck.
Larry
Robert,
if you too get frustrated, just let me know and I will take them off your hands..but don't cut em shorter than 29 inches, OK? :bigsmyl: :campfire:
It's really hard to help someone with these kinds of problems long-distance. Is there anyone in your area of TN who you could get help from...like maybe the Brashears'????
I'm having the EXACT same problem...mine is a 50lb Red Wing Hunter, flemish string, shooting 28.25", 55-75s,225 up front - my shelf, right at the left edge where the bevel meets the flat ; shows some red streaks from my 'cresting'.
I'm at 9/16" above center and clack followed by a hit within 2" of aiming spot.
Glad to know I can come to the Gang to share my pain.
Cosmic Ray,who are the Brashears'? I went back outside and tried some 200gr points and they flew just as good as the 250's.Cut off another 1/4" amnd shot 200 and 250 again, still perfect flight and clack. The only thing I noticed that changed the noise was my grip.I shoot with a relaxed grip.I tried wrapping my fingers lightly around the grip and it did lessen the clack, but it seems like it would be awfully hard to get that the same every time.I'm gonna try 175gr points tommorrow just out of curiosity.I think these 3000's are to weak.
Have you tried putting some spray powder or something on the last 4" to 6" of your arrow, or your rest and site window. Alan
I think my nock is hitting the riser just past the side plate.
One of my bows did this with carbons, finally found that it was hitting the outside edge of the shelf. I beveled my shelf, but thought later I coulda just put a matchstick or something similar under my rest material. Good luck!
Oh yhea, forgot to tell ya,I was shooting an elevated rest at first and switched to off the shelf.I don't think it's hitting the shelf anywhere since it made the same noise with the elevated rest.
The only thing I might try changing is your shelf material. I get along good using seal skin for the rest and calf hair for strike plate. The match stick trick worked for me on other bows. My cousin had a similar problem with a longbow making the "clack" but when I shot it it didn't make any noise. Good luck and don't worry you'll figure it out.
Brashear Bros Archery Supply is somewhere in TN ...a guy named Mark Brashear I believe, runs it..but I am not exactly sure where he is..maybe near Kingston TN?
