Title: Spine Tester
Post by: fflintlock on February 25, 2007, 11:17:00 AM
Does anyone have a recipe for a homemade spine tester ?
And, do they actually work as good, or pretty close to a store bought tester ?
Thanks,
Jerald

This site or the LW had pictures and discussion on one.  Looked like a great and simple idea.

I agree with painthorse.  Jim Hill's plans are easy to follow and make a very accurate spine tester.

I prefer the protractor type, but the dial indicator is a good one too. If you decide to go the dial route, make sure it has at least an inch of travel and check the resistance on the plunger, you may or may not have to compensate for it somehow. I know some have done that ( compensated for the spring pressure ) but I can't quite remember what they did.
