Hey guys...I just bought an archery hunt here in NY on a guys private 73 acres for next year. Can any of you guys tell me about this area of NY and what I need to know for hunting in NY, etc.
I can tell ya that ya should of looked into our Wildlife units and hunted for free unless this land is managed or something. We have a lot of great hunting open to the public and their is a lot in Allegany county as well. It will be like hunting in PA. Best of luck! Shawn
Hey Shawn...since I will be spending $250 on a NY license maybe it would be worth coming up a second time to that great open to the public hunting you talk about. I'd be obliged if you could pm me some details about this land you mention. :notworthy:
Catskills....Adirondacks...I can think of five different state land parcels(public use) that are within twenty minutes of my house....not mentioning the mountains.
What time of year is your hunt? Pa should be about the same weather wise I would think. If ya have any specific questions, I will do my best to help ya out.
I need to find out about Bow only areas myself.LOL.
Google NYSDEC, and then look for the public land locator map....should help ya out.
Do a search under NYS DEC and than look for widlife management units. There are tons of them. I could not even begin to tell ya of them. The Adirondacks alone have over 3.2 million acres of public land. Shawn
What township is it in? I live one county over from Allegany county in Wyoming county i might be able to give you a better idea. As a whole allegany county holds a lot of deer and some big bucks also, it has mostly hardwoods with some hemlock swamps there's a lot of small farms and abandoned farm land they don't have the large dairy farms like Wyoming county does but there are some. It should work out good for you.
I live 15 minutes from thousands of acres of state land in Allegany County. I would be happy to take the time to show you where much of it is at. Joe
