Title: Wet your whistle?
Post by: elk ninja on February 23, 2007, 05:30:00 PM
When hunting, how are you all keeping your mouth wet?  I am interested for two reasons...one is scent control, the other is cough prevention.  One of my ole hunting buddies (where did you go BeauDe Oaks?) figured that if the Arizona mulies smelled peppermint they wouldn't be scarred, but if they smelled our breath, well, that was another situation!  Of course, the best method would be to stay downwind, but every once in a while the fecal matter hits the fan, so to speak... so we used to eat altoids.  I have also used/ chewed the mint "snuff".  Never been much of a 'baccy user though, and I know some one is going to mention their 'cope habit.  Thats all fine and dandy.  Anything else?  As far as cough prevention, this last year when I was in my ground blindss, I always was sucking on a jolly rancher and it helped my need to cough... so any thoughts or other methods, ideas, whatever, let 'er rip!

I just carry 2 buttons in my bag. 1 green, 1 black. Sucking on a button will keep your mouth wet, and no candy smell.

I like the Apple Jolly Ranchers myself. Water works well too. LOL

I chew and mangle spruce needles, pine needles, wintergreen berries, sweet birch twigs. Stick 'em in my hatband or knit cap, too.

The deer laugh at my antics, and I feel gratified in giving them that gift.

I'm with BIGRON, Jolly Ranchers all the way!

I always munch em while climbing in the high peaks, even in the winter time; keeps the saliva flowin'  :scared:
