With the snow down here starting to dwindle and after a pumped up weekend Bunny hunting at Shawns, I decided to head out back and see if I could sneak up on a few bunnies.
I had promised I wouldn't shoot those Pink "Team Skipper" arrows but I was playing with a Heritage Carbon Southpaw (Scott) made up. It flew sweet and his washer and wingnut head looked like it should stop a cottontail. I beat the briars from 2:30 to 5:00, kicked out over 17 rabbits.
Must be the luck of the Pink because the last 2 bunnies I put out stopped close enough for a shot. The Groves spit the Pink Carbon to its target and I came home with meat for the sauce. I hope the pic of Scotts rabbit head shows up, devasting hit on the front shoulder.

I'm still pumped over the bunny hunt too, but I haven't seen a rabbit out here all year - and I've gone through some prime areas. Instead I'll get my fix by going after deer this weekend :jumper:

i was wondering the same thing
Great job skipper-- I forgot to give you your "pretty in pink" arra---next time I run into you---beman 500--should fly well out of your groves
Nice shootin Joe. :clapper:
I never saw a wing nut til this weekend at Shawns. Impressed the heck out of me.
Just the way its laying. I had them stuff into my side pack, which is really a canvas fishing creel.
I soaked them overnight in salt water and just finished up vacume sealing them. Couple weeks and they will have a home simmering in some tomato sauce....
That is just plain awesome Joe!!! :clapper:
You guys are having way too much fun!!!!!!!!!
Them wingnutters sure do make a fine arrowhead, don't they...
Congrads Joe thats awesome!!
Why is it ya/we soak them in salt water over night.I do it myself but I can,t for the life of me remember why
Sure wish you were here to join in the fun Bill!!
But, the weather out there sure beats here.
Nice! I like those bunny buster heads too.
Gene
Tom, When I was a kid (a LONG time ago) I was told that it drains the blood from the meat, and away from shot hole, cleaning up the "shot damaged" meat.
I've been doing it for years too,BTW :archer:
Right Chuck...heavy salt water will help drain any excess blood on the animal and also firm it up. Couple weeks, I brown them up lightly in olive oil and garlic. Let them simmer in tomato sauce for 2 hrs....then serve over a bed of linguine.. :goldtooth:
Thats a very large washer and wingnut that Southpaw has mounted on that Carbon arrow. It flies great and trust me, it hits very hard. If you could see the "bruising" after I skinned the rabbit, you swear Mike Tyson punched it.
A guy i talked with told me the bunnies are good shake and baked.
I'm off Mon/Tues next week....gonna head back out and beat the briars. This time I'll work alot slower and hope to catch a few more sitting.
Sure makes for easier shooting than trying to hit a running hare at 20 yds as he weaves around apple trees and briars. :jumper:
Good luck Joe...Im hoping to do the same. Slow walking seems to work best when ya hunt solo for sure.
Hitting a running bunny is hard enough with out the obstacles....I will leave those shots to you experts. GO PINK!!
Just realized the season ends Wednesday...boy Im gonna be sad on that day.
Where is your shop anyway? Im about twenty minutes south of Shawn. I might need to make a trip...
Joe,Are you looking for some company monday?????
Way to go Joe. how'd ya do 'em? Cacciatore or Fricassee?
Or tuesday?? LOL
Al Dente!! You should have come to the Bunny Hunt...your missing a great time with a fun bunch of arrow slingers. Cacciatore is fine but letting them simmer in the sauce after browning adds great flavor. Almost didn't recognize you in that Ghille Suit...LOL... :archer:
Next year I should be able to make it, I'm looking forward to it.
