Hey Gang,
if you've got any pictures of character or super character selfbows I'd love to see them. I look forward to the posts(and pics) to come. Take care, Matt
Seems that when I make selfbows thats all I make. We got some funky hedge here in ILL...

Some very fine examples of charter bows by all.
Dang Manny! I've seen all these bows before but those guava bows still make me smile. Can't believe how tough that stuff clearly is even when shaped like that. I just love your work!

Awe shucks! Thanks.
dogsBHTG: nope...crazy as they look they will perform just the same as a perfectly straight piece of wood that has the same level of set and weight/draw...

Great bows guys. Thems all purty!!!
Awesome looking bows fellas. Very beautiful. It's amazing what you can make a bow out of-though it takes the right craftsman. Again great looking bows. Keep em'comin'!!!
Probably the prettiest character bow I have made so far. I don't own it but I had to show it off.
I made this bow from two matched billets so the snakey limbs match. This picture shows both limbs.

Thats REALLY nice looking Eric! Some good looking copperhead skins on there...

They kill just as good :bigsmyl: :bigsmyl:
And every one is unique! No two alike!
Okay, I guess I need to throw my entry in.

Oh man! Drool! Is it the bows that are characters, or the guys who made them? :)
Great thread.
Dave in Ft. Collins, CO
Man I love looking at the bows you guys build. Most just border on impossible to me. :)
mmgrode,
the stain I like to use is Freibring's (sp)leather dye. They have a variety of colors or you can mix them together to make the color your looking for. The "textured" pattern on that first bow was done using a sponge dipped in stain and then dabbing it around on the belly side, first with one color then with another over the top. The bow was backed with rawhide and the snake like pattern was also applied with a sponge. The chevrons were first layed out with a sharpie marker then filled in with a Q-tip dipped in the desired stain. The finish is Tru-Oil.
Dano,
They are made from a peice of bocote shaped to look like an arrowhead. I'm actually reworking that bow a bit right now. I shortened it a bit and still have to add the tip overlays back on it. The limbs just seemed to boxy to me. Glad you like it. As you can see its the sister peice to my copperhead bow I usualy hunt with.
Working on a nutty one right now, at least for me. Huge step from the perfect hickory stave I made my first bow from LOL.
These bows are just awesome, ya'll did amazing work.

I am so jealous right now. I only hope my first attempt hold to gather, and looks only a faction as good as the ugliest of these. Man I am drooling, if my wife sees me now she will swear I was looking at well something else.
Superb bows!!!!!!!!!!!!
I truely congratulate all of you in keeping with the tradition of never being satisfied with the ordinary.
Great job guys, all those bows are works of art!
I would like for everyone to know how tough these type of bows are to build, these are some top notch bows. I can barely type write now cause I've been chasing a ring on ultra knotty, wavy and flat out stubborn piece of osage. Congratulations on those beautiful pieces of wood fellas.
