Title: I need some guidence.
Post by: 702plmo on February 19, 2007, 05:12:00 PM
I have an old  recurve and some new veneer.  I would like to put the two together.   Can someone who has experience doing this please give some instructions.    I have a little knowledge but want to get some tips before I start.

Ok  nobody is responding.  Heres some specific questions.
Can I put veneer over top of a glass limb.

If so what type of glue do you recomend?

What do you use to soften the veneer before you apply it?

What type of clear coat do recommend after the venner is applied, trimmed and stained?

James, I just thought I would post so you don't feel ignored. I have no idea BUT perhaps ask Bob Morrison he might know. Bob does magic with snakeskins often after a bow is built.

Regards,
Bill

I spose it's possible..it would have to be darn thin veneer..I would think the risk of changing the tiller will be high...the wood will also be subject to compression on the belly and tension on the back and may change or fail over time...your efforts may be better spent on a different project

The Veneer is very thin and flexible.    Ive got an old American Archer X-48 and the finish is really bad.     The Veneer is a very nice looking white Oak.
