so do you swing with them , or pick a spot ahead and wait for the shot?
thanks for any tips.
I,d hafta say to try and hit in front of them LOL I always seem to be behind them when their on the run
Hitting running rabbits is a 2 part process.....
Poke.....(an arrow through that tangle of brush)
Hope.....(that you hit it LOL)
Hunting running rabbits with bow and arrow?!?
That's the craziest thing I ever heard! :biglaugh:
I can't tell ya much about hitting running rabbits...But if you want to learn how to lose a camera, someone here can teach you that!...
Sorry...I Just Had To Do It!!!!... :p ...
... mike ...
i pick a spot of few feet ahead of them,
nevr aim directly on a running rabbit!!
I do it just like wingshooting, ya swing with them and than swing past all in one motion and let it fly. Ask one of the professionals like RU on this site. I watched him yesterday make an incredible running shot at 12 yards, bunny flat out and Ru rolled him over!! Shawn
I like to shoot them sitting then make up a good story about how fast it was going when i shot it. :bigsmyl:
Hit a running rabbit. Does the term Hail Mary mean anything to you.
Where I hunt rabbits there are a lot of alders and other brush so hitting a sitting rabbit is hard enough, running is hardly thinkable(probably not even a real word LOL)
i was wonderin,
how light can i go in arrow weight for my 47lb recurve,
i really need a faster arrow for those steroid users!!!
Just like wingshooting with your shotgun......the swing is how you hit them. You just have to learn your lead.
Jeff
What JBiorn said swing with them and get a sight picture just like a shotgun
Check out how much lead there is on this shot. It was a good hit you can see the arrow is half way there and it is still way out front. I was maybe 15 yards away. (http://i146.photobucket.com/albums/r259/Rkyle/Rkyle.jpg)
Nah...just do like Ru....run em down til they cant run and then shoot em.
Seriously...I have no idea how I shoot at running rabbits....it just happens...and I always miss. LOL.

With friends like this, who needs foes. :banghead:
I have to wait for them to stop

Sorry Charlie, you can tell two things:
1) few of us really have an educated answer to your question;
2) bunny hunting with friends is so much fun it should be illegal.
I think JBiorn knows what he's talking about. As for me, I hit them like Stone Knife.
BUFF,
i wish hunting was as easy for me in sandy valley,
the rabbits are so skittish, they run at the first sign of predetor as far as 60 yards away,
we flush'em out by skippen rocks around the area and have the buggers run out of their pit, rocks is the way to go for were i hunt,
nothin else, we used a dog but he always crosses our sight window!!
After my first day of hunting rabbits with a bow and shooting one on the dead run at 25 yards, I consider myself somewhat of an expert at this matter.
Here is how you do it.
Step 1) Rabbit gets up and runs like hell to get away from the middle-aged over-weight so called predator.
Step 2) Draw bow back.
Step 3)close both eyes (note- it doesn't matter what your dominate eye is, so long as both are closed)
Step 4) release the arrow aiming somwhat in the vicinity of the escaping rabbit
Step 5) This is important, Yell "HOLY %$#! I hit him" after you open both eyes and realize the rabbit actually ran into your poorly aimed arrow.
This worked for me. Well, at least once out of the 40 shots I took. Heck I may just write a book on this subject. Maybe I could get some sponsers and start my own TV show.
I haven't a clue how you guys even get a good group at 30 yards yet, much less shooting at bouncing cruise missles like rabbits! But it sure sounds like a hoot to try. I can't wait till Goose hunting opens again next year. I'm going to build a bunch of those Foo-foo arrows, or what ever they call them and have me a ball!!! I'm going to have arrows sticking up all over the back pasture.....Hopefully a few goose feathers fling too!
its flu-flu arrows kirk :biglaugh:
and its hard to shoot anything on the fly!!
Houska is dead on!! Step 1 through 5 is exactly how it happened to me.
Here is one that Jerry Ross (of Ambush Bow Contest fame) shot on our recent rabbit hunt. Rabbit came running by and he said he just looked him in the eye as he ran by and drilled it.

There are few things that are more fun, more frustrating, and yet so rewarding when you finally connect than rabbit hunting with a bow. dino
Swing through like Shawn said, release that arrow and then hope and pray.... :bigsmyl:
David
someone should post a picture of Mark's "bunny thrower" here. If you want to get good, this thing will definitely help. Of course there's a big difference between a target bouncing in one direction and a real rabbit that can see the arrow coming and evade..... :banghead:
bbassi,
You aint kidding!! Ive had a rabbit more than one time see the arrow comming and pull some sort of MATRIX move and contort out of the way of an on coming arrow. dino
Huh, the older I get the farther I have to swing past them. Must be old age reflexes. I'm becoming quite proficient at hitting there tail ends as they go by.
ouch,
right in the face!!!
Laughing hysterically at Houska.
Jeff
Shoot and then pray or is that pray and then shoot? Either way its lots of fun. I actually prefer to shoot them when they think they are well hidden and sitting still.
