OK Guys n Gals, we are going to attempt a member DVD of shorts that consists of hunts sent in by Trad Gang members.
You hunt, you film, you send in.....and if your hunt can get past Tom Mussatto's editing table, then we'll add it to the Trad Gang DVD.
We will also add some previous videos that have been submitted by Tradgangers....and the clips you submit can also be previous hunting tip scenarios of just how your hunt played out and why, 'how to' clips, game cleaning etc....
Please be advised....not all clips submitted are guaranteed to be included, and your clip might be edited if need be.
After we get what we think is enough for a good lengthy DVD, we'll offer it up for sale here on Trad Gang.
Tom Mussatto will be along shortly with the parameters.

Terry and Tom- Great idea.
David
hmmm...
Top class idea!
Are you gonna put a 'Final Entry' date on this?
Awesome idea Terry. Look forward to it coming out.
That format to submit - DVD, VHS, VHSC, 8MM, etc., just one or any?
Can't wait!!! - Great Idea!!! My wife said she would film my turkey hunt in a month and a half, hope I can submit it.
Jake
First off, before sending in any video for this project please E-mail first to make sure what you have is something I can work with.
Most all consumer video formats are acceptable: VHS, VHS-C, SVHS, DVHS, Sony 8, Hi-8, Digital8, MiniDV. Due to high compression, digital cards and DVD are destination formats and not good aquisition formats. I prefer not to work with these as a great deal of quality is lost. Contact me prior to sending video taken with DVD cams or digital card cams. Video in a highly compressed codec for use on the internet or E-mail will not be used in order to maintain as high of quality as possible for the finished DVD.
The length of the finished product will depend on 2 things. The quality of the video submitted and the amount of video submitted.
Hopefully a release form will soon be available to download and print. This will give myself and TradGang non-exclusive rights to use the video. A signed copy of this form should accompany the video you send in.
For best quality, regardless of the format you have, the original video is preferred. If you do not wish to submit the original video a first generation copy dubbed in SP mode will work for analog, and a copy made through Firewire for digital video. I would only need your tape one day, and would return to you unaltered the day after I receive it.
Looking forward to seeing what you folks come up with. Questions about format or submitting instructions should be addressed to me. Questions about content should be directed to Terry.
tomlongbo@yahoo.com
SWEET! This is an awesome idea. time to break out the old video camera ;)
I ill try to get a turkey hunt
We've thought about, chatted about, and kicked this about for a while now, ....and there's been a few threads started by members regarding this...so we are ready to take a stab at it.
I have no idea 'when' the DVD will be available for purchase......depends mostly on how much and how soon we get footage. It may even take a year.
If anyone has a content question, feel free to post it here or email me directly at...
I was going 90mph as usual a bit ago, and meant to add stories told around a campfire would be a nice addition as well.
tarz@tradgang.com
YES,YES, YES!!!!!!! FINALLY!! This is going to be super cool. I've been waiting to see this happen and I'll be glad to contribute anything I can. :scared:
Any chance of throwing some of the classic clips on there IE: Paul Schafer video clips?????
Where's Ken Swann? He's got some big MD bucks on video to share,I'm sure bout that! Great idea there fellas!
Being traditionally minded as I am, can I get my copy in 8 track?
JL
Got a question.... By submitting the video, are we signing over the rights to it? In other words, do i still own the rights to my footage even after submitting it? Those whose footage is used, get a free copy right? lol
Tom, are mini dv's from my XL2 a suitable format ;)
There might be some copyright issues in using the Shafer video clips. Paul's family owns the rights to these and it is my understanding that they do not wish for the videos to be distributed. Also, the quality when converted to a codec for use on a DVD would be terrible.
All the video presently posted on TradGang have been compressed for internet use and will not be suitable for making a quality DVD to be viewed full screen on TV. Those who submitted these video clips would have to resubmit them to me in original format if they wanted them included.
8 track???? :) I assume you meant VHS. Copies can be made in VHS or SVHS but cost would be higher than a DVD and quality would be less. I have sold, traded, or mothballed my VHS duplication equipment and would have to make these one at a time, and they would not be retail ready items. Plain sleeve, no graphics or labels. And of course, no chapter or scene markers to allow instant access to specific videos on the disk.
Kyle, you would be assigning myself and TradGang non-exclusive rights (giving us a license) to use your video. You still own the rights and can continue to sell or distribute anyway you want. TradGang would have sole ownership and distribution rights only of the DVD it produces.
"Tom, are mini dv's from my XL2 a suitable format"
Not only suitable, but preferred. Much less work for me at my end. Hope to see some good stuff from you.
Free copies???? Need to talk with Terry on that one. I'm just the grunt man here. :)
A couple more things. For those who have equipment capable of shooting 16:9 aspect ratio, such as Kyle with that XL2, please shoot 4:3. I can convert but you get into framing issues and some loss of quality converting in post.
Also, for those capable of shooting HD please shoot SD for this project. Current DVD standards are SD and downconverting HD to SD is more work and nothing is gained. If your product is going to be SD, as this one is, then it's best to shoot in SD.
YES,YES, YES!!!!!!! FINALLY!! This is going to be super cool. I've been waiting to see this happen and I'll be glad to contribute anything I can
This is the best idea I have heard all day. You made my day. Now the only thing that could top this is if someone tells me Instinctive Archery is running again. I'd love to buy the video and especially like the part about hunting tips, etc. Marvelous idea guys! :clapper:
Hey guys,
You can count on a submission from me...deer, turkeys, African game...something. Great idea. Brady
AWESOME...just what a new guy is looking for. Hopefully a little instruction will be included. Can't get enough of the traditional archery. Thanks DT
Time frame?? When is the dead line for submitting video?
John III
I am not an expert on copyright but with regard to the copyright issue I do think it would be wise to have people sign off on any submissions used in the DVD so that there is no question about ownership.
John, I don't believe there is a dead line. I haven't talked with Terry about a time limit but it's my understanding that I'll just edit and author the DVD when I have enough video to fill a disk. Depending on the quality of the video that comes in and how much compression I have to use this could be from 1 to 2 hours total run time. If we use 10 to 15 minutes of each submission this would be about 6 to 10 entries. If we get more than that we could use them in future projects if they are popular enough to warrant continuing. This would be Terry's call. If we get less than that I would think it would demonstrate not enough interest or support to make the DVD.
The ball's really in you guys court. How soon the DVD is made, or if it is made at all, depends on how much input we get.
Great idea. I love browsing through the members' videos but don't really care for the small format.
Will be great to see on the big screen !
Editing is great fun, but it can suck up a ton of your time...as you know Tom, so thanks for undertaking this project !
Looking forward to the results....I wish I could have bagged that bear we had on video last year now ! Way too dark for general entertainment though.
BTW - It would be a great problem to have if you had too much video submitted. As a video junky I don't think you'd have a problem selling the tradgang on a 2 or 3 disk set either......if yer up for it ;)
Kyle,
What Tom said. We do not want to own your footage, we want permission/rights to use your video in a Trad Gang DVD.
No deadline will be set........either we get enough or we don't, and when we get enough we'll roll....and if we keep getting submissions, we'll make another...and another.
Oh boy! I knew there was a reason for keeping my old VHS camera. I can see it now, my name up in lights, a week in Cannes promoting the DVD, surrounded by 'beautiful people'. Now, if i can just get our government to let me go bowhunting....darn it, I'll just wait and buy the DVD you guys produce. Tom and Terry, this is a great undertaking you guys have taken on, and it is much appreciated.
Graham
Sweet!!! I plan on filming my season. Every thing from scouting in the summer for deer elk and antelope to keeping the hounds in shape to the fall when the arrows are flying :bigsmyl:
I would think you would want to give a free copy to those that donate the clips, otherwise you wouldn't of had them. Just good business.
I have one I could send in. In would need editing as from start to finish is 14 minutes, much of the time unfortunately the deer is off camera. I was alone and had it set up on the tree.
Great idea. Hope you are able to identify the hunters throughout the video. That would make it real special.
Bowhunter Magazine used to put out a video series of various hunts and they would release them in Volumes 1, Volume 2, Volume 3, etc...
It would be nice (assuming sales can support it) for this to be an ongoing project with a new volume released when enough footage is collected to do so. I can also see this being a big motivator for those who do not currently video hunts to begin doing so.
I think it's a great idea and we SHOULD have enough TG members to support such an effort!
Sounds like an awsome idea, cant wait, might have to get the camra out my self , just got to shoot some thing when i have the camra turned on,
I hope folks don't feel they have to have "kill shots" to submit footage for this DVD. I don't think Terry and Rob are looking to put out a video of simply a series of kill shots. There are plenty of those already out there and would not be a true representation of the bowhunting experience.
This will hopefully be a video of TradGang members hunting, which includes all aspects of the hunt. Scouting, stalking, shooting, campfire talk, dressing game, preparing equipment, footage of the areas you hunt, mid-day stump shooting, etc.
If you already have footage please send it in. If not, get those cams out there and get busy. This will only happen if folks participate.
We've got a commitment from a story teller to tell one around a campfire or through photos......might have a rabbit cleaning session.....and a little shooting.
We also would love to have hunting scenario tips....and would love to have some quick how to's, .....footage of guys in camp shooting as a group.....sharpening heads....eating etc.
And if you do get a kill shot on film, we'd love for you to describe the set up and how it all came together.
Have fun guys!
Terry, what is shoting?
I have some footage of Ronnie "Cuz" Strickland in his underwear????????
terry or tom iv got some shaky video of a huge piebald from acouple years ago.can that be corrected?i dont know if the quality is good enough
anyone know where i can get batteries for a VHS cam? got an old one that would be fun to help out with, but the battery last about 10 minutes fully charged. Sounds like a great idea, hope to have a collection of these one day
Keith, it depends on how bad the jitters are on the video. I can smooth it out but it requires losing data to do so. It's a trade off between shake and resolution, lessening the one lessens the other. Won't know if it's useable until we look at it.
Thomas, check with B&H for batteries on older model cams.

Biggie, I got a note that you had sent a PM. There was no PM when I logged in but I did respond via E-mail. Having some problems receiving PM's, I probably have something set wrong.
tom ill get my son to help me get something together this weekend
The 'release' form will be available on this thread in a bit.
would ya need some knife and hawk throwing?
Trad Gang DVD Release Form (http://tradgang.com/release.html)
Please print out, fill out, sign, and send along with your video.
Thanks again Tom!
If you can waite until November, I can get you some awesome whitetail footage, but it would be from my VHS camcorder.
Doug, there is no set time frame for submitting video. Terry said he'll just accept video until he gets enough to produce a DVD.
If we receive all the videos that folks said they will send, and in a timely manner, I suspect we'll have enough before November. Don't let this keep you from using that camera in November. I don't know if this is to be a one shot deal or a continuing offering of TradGang. Terry/Rob are investing some money on this and I doubt they will want to continue doing so if they are not able to at least break even on the project. Not only would this be costly but would demonstrate a lack of interest, and suggest it not worth pursueing. Any extra footage we receive that does not appear on this DVD may be used in future projects if they happen, or possibly used in clips posted in Members Video Forum.
Yes, VHS is fine. Make sure you aquire the footage in SP mode and if at all possible submit the original tape(s). There is considerable loss in quality when dubbing analog.
TTT
Tom
I have some white deer & turkey on video..
The deer are on vhs, If I recorded it over to a dvd would that work for you.. Or should I just leave it on Vhs?
Gary, it would be best to send the VHS tape. Burning a DVD would compress the files and info would be lost that would be unrecoverable when I converted to AVI. Quality of the video would suffer.
Hey Terry, what a project...look for to seeing it.
MAybe just a suggestion, but could there be room for a tips& tricks or how-to's on this DVD????hmmmm?
Yes Sir!!!!!!
How much do you pay per clip?
1.5 Million.
Terry, I would like to renegotiate my contract. :)
No problem Tom........just add another zero.
Once again Terry and Tom have put themselves at the mercy of all of us. I will tell you right now that taking the video is far easier than editing and converting. I give Tom and Terry a big thumbs up. This is a great idea and will allow people to put names with faces as well as see some traditional footage without the other "stuff". I hope my brother and I will be able to come up with something worthy to contribute.

Bringing this back to the top as a reminder to folks to get those videos in. Terry and Rob have gone out on a limb here to try and bring you the TradGang DVD that many have asked for over the past couple of years. To make this happen we need videos.
To date I have received one video. Joseph Myers has submitted video from his African hunt. Good stuff here. Ya wanna watch the video? It will only happen if we can fill a DVD.
This is just a small sample of what will be on the DVD
Ah yes, Africa (http://www.tradgang.com/videos/tm/tease.wmv)
Yeah, I know. I'm a no good &($#(@%. :bigsmyl:
This is going to be great
There are what, 12,000 members here and I am the only one that has sent anything yet  Joseph
TTT
I've very glad to see this! It ought to be great.
I know a lot of people have asked about submission deadlines. Here's my two cent suggestion: Keep it open for a year from now, or at least until Jan 08. Probaly for many (if not most) of us, hunting seasons are all over right now, and we've got to wait until August at the earliest, if not October or November to actually get in the field.
Of course how-to videos and such can be done in the summer. :) Holding the submission time open that long will of course mean the actual DVD will not be available for a long time. But hopefully it would also mean that you get more footage of trad hunts that you can use.
Edited ona 'cuz I kant speel.
TTT!!!!!!!!!
There's going to be enough footage for two dz. DVDs. I can't wait.

Not even close yet, but it's still early. :) What very little we have so far is pretty interesting stuff but we need much more from as many different folks as possible.
Refer to earlier posts to find out what Terry is looking for and get it in.
put me on the list to buy one!!!
What a neat idea! I really enjoy watching Cabela's home video footage. I'm so bored with the big name "hunting celebrities" chaff on TV.
Anyone try a helmet cam? Or would that be too "Blaire Witch?"
Tamure, most all of the video we've gotten in so far is "Blaire Witchish", but very interesting. :)
Still looking for footage to complete TradGang's Premiere Volume. Send in what you have or get the cams rolling. For those who have already submitted footage, thanks, it's appreciated. Everyone who submitted to date should have their tapes back. If not, please let me know.
TOM got mine back on sat thanks hope every thing works out
We have a few commitments that just may make this thing a 'GO'.
Lets hope they all come in.....
ttt
Bringing this back up as a reminder that we still need some video to finish the project. From the squirrel woods of Indiana to the plains of Africa, it's shaping up to be pretty interesting.
If you have some footage get it in. If you don't...go get some.
Tom, Still working on my copies...Had a computer problem last weekend but am getting it cleared up now. Got the Alaska tape done and am now compiling the Bear hunt.
Bill
Just got a preview of what we have so far.....and it's coming together guys.
Got a bit of stuff still to be filmed....and when that gets done, we'll have enough for a video I do believe.
I plan to do alot of filming this year as it will be my first year with a traditional bow. I dont know that anyone will care to see it but I will send it in.
BTW what does TTT stand for?
I will buy one for sure. :archer: :clapper:
"To The Top"
SWEET TERRY cant wait
ttt
The project is shaping up nicely. Little bit of everything so everyone should find something of interest in there. But.....where are the ladies? I know we have some and it sure would be nice to have them included.
Thanks to all to have contributed so far. It's appreciated. Still have a little room left and time to get your video submitted. Especially looking for "how to" stuff so for you folks who have a talent or skill you wish to share do it in front of a cam and send it in.
ttt
oh yeah sounds real cool cant wait for this one :notworthy: :campfire: :archer:
TTT
TOM OR TERRY how is this project coming
Any interest in dutch oven cooking of game in the backcountry or just hunting video?
Trailer is done....we are dotting 'i's and crossing 't's.......smoothing out, and having to re-shoot a couple of segments.....basically done on content........
Got about an hour and a half of feature segments, and 30 minutes of how to's. Its a lot of fun, and way better than I ever expected.
Soon to make a post.....
I hope this encourages other's to pick up a camera......and join in on the fun.

I hope to get my brothers first bow kill on tape this coming year! It would be awsome to be able to re-live that moment in 10,20,30 years!
What a great idea! I'm psyched and hope to send some footage in this year. Please put me on the by list!!!
