Post by: Over&Under on February 17, 2007, 12:23:00 AM

Could not pass that up, bought 2 boxes

Those look pretty good to me, they remind me of a 4 blade Tusker, but with a triple laminated tip.  I'd say you got a good buy!

I've used them. Shot a doe with them as a 2 blade using a 40lb wheeley about 15 years ago. I got the head and feathers sticking through on each side after breaking 1 rib.
The ferruls were not mounted straight, and they needed a LOT of sharpening.

BTW, I paid about 25 for 6 back then.

Enjoy!

Brett - you are right about the sharpening, they come out of the box pretty dull, I have a hone coming to see if I can fix that.

Do you mean they didn't hold an edge or are you refering to what I just said about them comeing out dull?

there have been some studies discussing the shortcomings of heads that are "short" in blade length..I personally have seen them used on whitetails in our urban program by compounders.

I was not overly impressed with penetration or blood trails.

One difficulty is the length of the blade, and the abrupt angle change required to get a decent cutting diameter into such a short length...almost makes them seem to have to be a PUNCH tool, rather than a CUT tool, if you see what I mean?

There's a reason broadheads, or anything else, for that matter, end up in a 'bargain corner' and it usually doesn't have much to do with them being a great product.

I hope you wanted honesty!

Thanks Ray, if I din't want it, I would'nt have asked.

I do agree with what you are saying, I will definatly do some testing. If all else, they will make some great small game heads or turkey heads.

I bet they would work great on bunnies and squirrels for sure!

I meant that they came out of the box like the back of a butter knife.

I agree with the sharp blade angle.

If you ever find some Hoyt Top Cut broadheads, get them at that price.

Those were better IMO.
145 Gr. 4 blade...stainless steel and sharp as can be out of the box. These were 1.25" and seemed tough. The blade angle was not *as* steep, but the high profile additional blades may limit penetration.
