Sometimes in life you learn something by accident.
Back around the mid 1990s I had arrowed a deer and while blood trailing it, going slow looking for every spot of blood, I caught some movement out of the corner of my eye and just a few feet away, there was a Fox Squirrel looking through the ground debris.
I got an arrow nocked and added to the harvest that day.
Well fast forward, I went out Squirrel hunting and thought I would try "still hunting for squirrels."
Oh wow, I actually limited out in less than an hour, and every shot was on the ground.
I'm guessing that something that is moving that slow can't be dangerous.
I have squirrel hunted that way every sense.
If you are a squirrel hunter, you should give it a try, but keep it a secret.
I have done that myself. It seems to work in the fall during prime deer season. Squirrels are on the ground collecting and burying nuts. Many times I ended up just a few feet from one by accident
I will try that ! Thanks . I've always just sat.
Sometimes squirrels are so preoccupied with preparing to survive the winter that they don't pay enough attention to surviving the day.
I get close to alot of squirrels while going painstakingly slow still hunting. Also songbirds and other critters.
While still hunting for deer, I know am not moving to fast if I can keep squirrels insight at about 15 to 20 yds. Once my speed picks up the squirrels disappear.
Still hunt that way for deer too. It works. Slow down.
I don't feel like my bows are very noisy but I have trouble with them jumping the string when they're on the ground.
Works especially well when the leaves are just off the trees. Little buggers still think they're hidden! It's pretty awesome.
Stalking squirrels and groundhogs is good practice.

Take 5 small steps then wait 20 seconds. Repeat...
I started hunting on squirrels. Shotgun and .22 rifles but same technique. My step-dad was a master.
Been there, done that, except the part of tagging out, it was more like "running out" of arrows for me! :biglaugh:
Good to see you here Tony. :wavey:
