Title: Gold tip traditional only
Post by: Bowguy67 on October 11, 2023, 12:17:44 PM
Idk I'm probably late to the party here w carbons so if it's been discussed forgive me. I typically shoot cedar arrows but last year tried the trad only in preparation of more bullet proof (unbreakable in a sense) arrows for ETAR. Anyhow I've now shot two deer with them, neither went completely through as would be determined by shot placement. I've always shot up close to front but I've noticed the deer ran off with the arrow sticking out. One was found 15 feet away the other 50 yards. Both were complete pass through looking with the feathers matted down. The only conclusion I could think of is the heavy insert plus the heavy broadhead caused it to finish pulling through as it ran off?
Gotta be honest these are only two of 4 deer taken w carbons but the first two didn't perform that way. This is limited but an odd coincidence
The buck Monday night was hit through the shoulder blades, even the feathers got beat up yet arrow came through. Just interested to hear thoughts if anything different. Pick of arrow for reference

It happens especially if the deer move at the impact. If your arrows are flying perfectly the carbons will retain more energy than wood or aluminum since the paradox is cleaner and they recover much faster. I had the opposite experience, more passthroughs with carbon and front loading the arrow.

All my experience is with tapered, footed wood arrows, so no help here.  3 blade and 2 blade wide heads, pass throughs.

I've blown through so many moving animals with carbon, especially TX, that I don't have an answer.  I hunted deer in TX for two years before I learned to aim 2"s under them. Since I learned that, I killed a nice 8 and two 10 pointers, and several doe.

15 feet up, and 15 yards away, and the entrance and exit were the same parallel.  Those deer were duckin and leaning away so hard that it looked like I shot them standing on the ground.

I'm not sure what your issue is, but its not the arrow.  :campfire:

No worries....

This pic was taken 15  years ago in my office, needless to say there have been dozens added since then. Special kill arrows from special animals and hunts...... 95% shields.  All are tagged per hunt.  There is only one wood arrow on this rack, the rest are carbon..  I need to find a new rack!!!!  :biglaugh:
