What is best for carbon hunting arrows, Parabolic or Shield cut right now
I'm using parabolic 4" on my 500, new 600 on the way and does it matter
left or right wing. thanks
I am sure there will be lots to chime in with way more knowledge than I have, but here is what I have found out since taking up this a year ago.as far as fletchings go, especially the shapes, I haven't a clue as I use what I like. The Wings, I gather, make no diff either as long as all are the same on the same arrow(be pretty hard to do otherwise since attaching tools are wing specific). My biggest thing is the noise of the actual feather. I have read they make a noise, but the string is going to jump the critter anyway so again, I just go for what I like. Shot placement is gonna feed ya, feather and string noise will not starve ya.
As long as they are all LW or RW on the shaft it doesn't matter which you shoot .
And as far as shape, skies the limit. It's what ever you like.
There's little if any perceptible difference in the shapes of a feather as far as speed n penetration go. Sound yes
YMMV. Kevin
Thank you for the info, I haven't decided yet :banghead: :archer2:
I like parabolic cut for hunting. Somewhere years ago I read an article doing a noise comparison between shield cut and parabolic. Also the height of the feather was compared. A lower cut parabolic feather was deemed the quietest by the author. But since then more sophisticated equipment has surfaced to test so maybe there's new findings? I do know Fred Bear used shied cut and Howard Hill used parabolic and both men killed mor game than most.
Prefer the shield cut.[attachment=1]
A low cut parabolic is still the quietest, and if you have properly tuned your setup it will be more than enough to stabilize your arrow. :coffee:
Tried some shield cut a few years back. Was surprised how noisy they were. I use 3" parabolic. Now I get 3 fletch out of a full length instead of maybe two 5"
Thanks everyone, nice looking arrows stagetek, I'm going to buy both and
see what works best.
If you shoot single bevel broadheads, the feather helical twist should match the bevel (right wing feathers with right wing single bevel).
Thanks for the input guys. I really appreciate the info/advices
When I do shoot carbon I usually have them made.

Makes no real difference. Your shooting ability is way more important.
This pic was taken 15 years ago in my office, needless to say there have been dozens added since then. Special kill arrows from special animals and hunts...... 95% shields. All are tagged per hunt.
