Here I go again, was talking with a friend earlier today and got me to remembering back.
I was about 17 years old and my Grandfather had a Beagle that was a year younger than my Beagle that I hunted with. My dog was a 13" and she would run rabbits so fast that the rabbits would make a very big circle and when it would come past me, it would be a blurr and I would pass on the shot (with my K-Mag) but occasionally I would get a shot in the open.
Now back to Tufftuff, she was 13" Beagle as well but she had a thyroid problem. She weighed a little over 40 pounds and couldn't run much.
Thinking back it was comical to watch her run a rabbit, she would walk the track all the while yipping and the rabbit would circle a small loop and when it came by me, it would be a hop or two and stop and look back.
Needless to say, I got more rabbits with that dog than I did with my dog. :archer:
Pine i'm not sure who your friend was but I can definitely relate as I know what you're talking about. My dog is a hunting fool and has brought me more rabbits at random than i ever killed. I guess its ok that she can't read a calendar. 😁
I need to see if she can blood trail.
I like most dogs ........ but a Beagle is a special thing, what fantastic animals. Loyal to the core.
I lost mine just a couple months ago.......got real sick out of nowhere, he was 13. Scout.
As long as my ears are still working, the sound of beagles running and sounding off will raise the hairs on my skin and give me the chills .... what an amazing thing to hear and I will love it for all of my days!
About the best sound there is.
