Does anyone still make a 52" takedown recurve bow like the old Cascade magnum from Steve Gorr?
I'd love to have one.
Good question Rob.Cant think of any off hand.might start by looking at every Bowyers website and whats the shortest T.D recurve they make in a 3 piece. Also if you dont mind a 2 piece recurve thier are some that are pretty short.
Might look into the shortest ILF risers paired with the shortest ILF limbs available.
I looked at the sponsers list. The shortest 3 piece recurve I could find thier was one at Stalker Bows that was 54 inches.
Sierra Blanca,NM.
Steelhead, thanks for taking the time to look at all the bowyers for me. I really appreciate it .
The Toelke Kestrel...don't think it is still being made but I have 4-5 of them. One is a t/d and I'm in Aiken, SC if you ever want to take a ride...tippit
I would love to find a short 'pocket curve' to take with me on certain outings. 52" take down, either 2 or 3 piece, for some of the nasty I go in for critter recovery.
I'm going to subscribe to this thread to see what comes up. Might even trade an annual Sponsorship and Banner for one.
I'll also check the classifieds.
Thanks to all for the interest
I killed a bunch of deer years ago with a Cascade Golden Hawk magnum. It was a little heavy in poundage and I sold it. I think if a bowyer took that same Cascade design and added fast flight capability and some of the other new technology in bow building they'd have a real winner. I know about some of the short one piece designs available but one piece short bows aren't as easy to shoot as a heavier riser 3 piece in my opinion. Plus packability is much better.
Pop up blind hunting is big this time of year for Turkey hunting and a 52" will work in almost any pop up blind. No need to buy the extra large taller pricier blinds.
Loved my Cascade Golden Hawk Magnum, too! But at 67# it became too much and sold it long ago. Wonderful, smooth shooting short bow that I used from a seated position in my tree stands. Would love to find one in a light weight but have been looking for awhile now.
The KT44 and JT44 are the shortest made 3 pc TD made these days if John is still building them.
Maybe reach out to Shrew, JavaMan, St. Joe River bows, they all make short recurves, not sure if they're that short, but they may be willing to work with you to come up with one in a take down model. Never hurts to make a phone call and make new friends.
Jason
Kelly,
I remember my 52" Cascade magnum being very forgiving. It wasn't super fast but I shot through everything. I couldn't miss...well maybe a time or two.😜
I feel like there's a big demand for one just like Steve Gorr made. Now that he's retired I think he'd be honored by some bowyer using his great design. Check Mate archery in Canada makes similar bows in longer lengths so maybe someone on the forum that knows the bowyer can convince Chekmate to make them again.
Denny Behn of early Bighorn days had a hand in the design of the first Golden Hawk Magnums. They were available in 48" and 52" length.
It is my understanding that part of the reason they are no longer available is the bowyer at Checkmate had/has issues.
So for now I'll just settle for my 56" Bear TD's. I did find a 54" China made 3 pc TD that shoots pretty good. But now they went and changed the handle shape, of which I don't like.
In ILF, a 13" handle and shorts makes a 54" bow and I guess there are some manufacturers making extra shorts which would make a 52" bow.
I know its not 52", but Fedora made 54" takedowns. I had 2 of them and shot them for 3-4 years.. Loved the short bow, shot them Ok.. just preferred his 560 over them..
Rod , glad to see you are still around. I camp and fish around Calhoun falls some, was at lake Russell trying to catch some crappie (without success ) a couple weeks ago.
Mike
Right this minute My boat is parked on the bank just below felkel boat ramp while I'm up the hill sitting in a blind calling to a turkey. Good to hear from you. I live on lake Russel and keep a Jon boat hidden on the bank just down the hill from my house. Let me know the next time you're in town.
Shrew Lil Favorite can be made in two piece and comes in at 54". It's a great shooting little bow.
John Maus from Lone Wolf Bows makes a Banshee recurve in 52". I have a Kayapo on the way, hopefully Friday and I can't wait
A TimberGhost G3SS 54" Takedown will string as short or likely shorter than a typically strung 52" recurve.
A high end performer.
Check with Little Suckling Bows. They used to offer some real stubby recurves.
Here are my Toelke Kestrels 52 inch recurves. Bottom one is a BowBolt...tippit

NICE Jeff!!!
awesome bows :archer2:
I own a Toelke Kestrel and a Bear Kodiak Magnum. Both are 52" bows. I also own a pair of Damon Howatt High Speeds and a Wild Horse Creek Mariah and all 3 of those bows are 54".
I believe that Toelke would do well if he would begin making his Kestrel/Troll in a 52" and 54" models. Short bows are wonderful and I shoot them as well as any of my other bows.
Those Kestrels are sharp looking bows.
Very nice toelkes. Another thing I liked on my old cascade was the Delta 7 arrow quiver. I still have one from an old Jim Brackenbury 83 pound Drifter recurve I had back in the 1980s. It has Brackenbury Bows written across the hood. I liked that quiver especially on short bows because you could slide the whole quiver up or down to the perfect spot and then tighten the screws. That feature worked great to keep the nocks of your arrows out of the dirt when you leaned your bow against something. You had to have the 1/4 inch quiver inserts on the ends of the riser to mount it. Worked perfectly. Alas, those are no longer made either I believe. 🥲
Kestrels are excellent bows. I do not know what Toelke changed in the Kestrel to have it become a "Troll" but sure do enjoy my Kestrel,
I think it went from Troll 1st and then became the Kestral.Been wrong before though.I had a Troll.Perhaps it was the name Troll LOL.
Nice short bow either way you name it.I hunted with my Troll for 2 years. It shot well.
Some nice bows there, but this is a 3 piece 48" and 50". This one is a original Rocky Mountain but you can still have a modern version from Sierra Blanca recurves
Those are worth a look for sure.I had one like that by Rocky Mountain that was longer.Sierra Blanca's prices are good. Its a 3 piece as well which is what he is looking for.
You can see the pronounced deflex in the riser that makes for a nicer more comfortable shooting short bow for sure and it should point naturally.
Good post!
Cacciatore there it is! That Sierra Blanco short recurve looks perfect. I saw that you posted Sierra Blanco early in the thread but I was too dumb to understand what you meant. I was thinking. why is this guy posting the name of city? I'm looking for a bow. 😂
Anyway I'm going to order one today hopefully. He even installs the 1/4 inch quiver inserts on the riser so I can use my old Delta quiver.
Thanks to you and everyone else that tried to help me. 😀🏹
Yes, very nice!!!
Those Sierra Blanca bows do look like a very nice bow. Great pricing, also!
Can someone provide a link to pricing? I'm not sure I'm even on the correct site or not, it's kinda scattered a bit.
Terry,
I was looking at the pricing on these stock bows. I'm not seeing the pricing on custom bows, but Jess's contact info is on this site.

Thanks Ron....
I'm going to give him a call....
I just called Jess at Sierra Blanco Recurves and ordered the 3 piece Thunderbolt with static tip limbs in 52" length. And he installs the 1/4 inch quiver bushings like I wanted. I'm rough on bows and didn't won't a pretty gender-confused exotic wood so I just got a green actionwood riser and green glass on the limbs. And Since it's all green I'm gonna name it "Gutshot" Gonna write the name on the upper limb. 😂🏹
Only $675 for a new takedown recurve. Great guy to talk to as well.
I built the "TD Yeti" in 52" & 54" years ago, but the shorty bows were not real popular. So i didn't build a lot of them, and took them off my offerings on my website... But... I still have the forms and would be more than glad to custom build more of these..... Here are a few photos and a couple videos of them.

Here is one more clip i did.... Its amazing how quiet these are without string silencers....

Those Bigfoot Bows are very nice too! You're gonna make me buy 2 bows...😂
I think you could maybe have a few different lengths and poundages with the Sierra Blanca. You obviously have the shortest riser.
The static limbs are newer I believe.I think the originals were more full working recurve limbs. Not sure if he's still offering those?
Anyway Rocky mountain recurves had 3 riser lengths and multiple limbs.I had one of thier brochures like 25 years ago.He was a smart guy and built a great bow.
Hope you like it Rod :)
Yes the Thunderbolt is now available in the shorter lengths with static tips but you can still order the Rocky Mountain recurve model too.
G Fred made 52" limbs for the curved bed Bighorn take down. several of us had these but they were all 65# and up to 70. I wish I had a set that is 50# for my riser. Made a very nice bow.

I'd love to have one.
I have a 49" Javaman Elkhart 2pc longbow. Not sure if he still makes them but he has so maybe.
Love my little 52" from Sierra Blanca Bows
